Laptops Shutdown Why Can't I?

Updated on October 4, 2011

Do you find yourself spending countless hours in front of your laptop (Kindle, Nook, Ipad, smartphone....the list can go on and on) up until the very millisecond before you're about to go to bed? Well that describes me to a capital T. Now I have gotten to the point where I check this and update that and before I know it 5 hrs. has passed by and I haven't eaten anything nor had any type of liquid to keep me hydrated. Well I am putting my foot down and if this is your m.o. as well then I challenge you to join me in saying no more!

This morning I went into work like a zombie. My eyes were burning, feeling puffy and looking swollen and this can't continue! I'm not a vain person but I do take a little pride in my apperance and I can't have myself walking around looking and feeling like this. I need my 7-8 hrs. of sleep like I used to get pre-Facebook. And the thing about it is that if you are like me, we are doing this to ourselves. So my challenge to myself and to all of you snoozing seconds after shutting down your computer is to get off those computers and gadgets 30 minutes before you go to bed and see how refreshed you are when you wake up in the morning. Game on! Or should I say game off!

P.S. I also failed to mention that inadequate sleep not only causes fatigue, eye puffiness and a bad attitude but it can also cause irregular heart rhythms and increased blood pressures, let that help jumpstart your challenge!

Okay guys, I shut down 20 instead of 30 min. last night before going to bed. I ended up checking this real fast and checking that in a second and went over. But I made the attempt and whether it was a placebo affect or not I actually felt a little more energized this morning. It's tough but we need to stay off the gadgets juice! And I hope you feel better latice_j! Laptops are your friend when you're sick but you still need plenty of rest to shake that cold. :-)

Okay NiaG, I am guilty. Even to the point of turning off my phone and staying home from work on a sick day if it comes to it. I'm an SL (Second Lifer) addict, and Hubpages has gotten under my skin. I've begun to stay off my laptop, to go outside for fresh air, but today I am home with a cold and so it, my laptop, is my 'company' haha! You are right on with this hub! I will do better! Thanks for the read! Voted you up, funny, awesome, useful and interesting!

sisterofdummy you can't quit cold turkey! It has to be gradual. That's why I say start off with 30 min at first before you go to bed. I now have 7 min. before I need to get off in order to rest my eyes and wind down properly. Or else I will be the zombie that I was this morning. We have to find a way to curb this addiction! Let me know your progress.....5 min. and counting.

I am so like that also! When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is check my emails, look at my updates, etc. So, what should I do to get off, and quit cold turkey?
