A TEST OF FAITH: 4 Members of Family with 4 Types of Cancer

Updated on November 16, 2018

CANCER

Cancer is one of the most dreaded diseases in the world. Every one is aware of its consequences. Most people react to the information with fear, disbelief, will I die?, What will happen to me and family? How long will I live? Do I have to go through radiation, chemotherapy, etc? A myriad of questions swirling around the head non-stop without any solution.

The most common types of cancer are: Bladder Cancer, Melanoma Breast Cancer, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Colon and Rectal Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer, Endometrial Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Kidney (Renal Cell) Cancer, Skin Cancer (Nonmelanoma), Leukemia, Thyroid Cancer, Lung.

As individuals, we are stunned and confused when we are diagnosed. But when as a family, we are confronted with multiple types of cancer, we are completely at a loss, dismayed and stunned. What do we do? Where can we get the best help? It is like multiple disasters happening at the same time, earthquake, tsunami and volcano eruption, one after another engulfing us leaving us gaspiing for breath. Where can we flee? To the mountains? To another place? To God as our last resort and refuge? Each of the four patients is tried according to the individual ability of his or her ablity to interact with the Lord.

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able: but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Four members of our family were diagnosed with different types of cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostrate cancer and colorectal cancer. These cancers are some of the most common types while ovarian cancer is more rare. You will notice that the rate of mortality is quite high. Two of the sisters suffer from breast cancer and ovarian cancer while two brothers suffer from colorectal cancer and prostrate cancer. Three of them are currently under doctors' care. One is currently in Vancouver while the other two are in Toronto. None of my parents suffered from cancer. None of them either smoke or drink.

Breast Cancer

Definition of breast cancer.

Cancer that form in issues of the breast, usually the ducts (tubes that carry milk to the nipple) and lobules (glands that make milk). It occurs in both men and women although male breast is rare.

Estimated new cases and death from breast cancer in the United States in 2008

New cases - 182,460 (female); 1,990 (male)

Death: 40,480 (female); 450 (male)

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer in women in the U.S. with over 25,000 women newly diagnosed each year with this disease. It is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths in women and frequently does not result in symptoms until the cancer has spread extensively. Less than one-third of ovarian cancers are detected before they have spread outside of the ovaries.

The majority of ovarian cancers are diagnosed late, after the cancers have spread. Only about 20% of women are diagnosed early, when the disease may be curable. There is no definitive screening test for early ovarian cancer. Regular pelvic examinations, sometimes supplemented by ultrasound examinations or blood tests for cancer-related markers, have been routinely used for ovarian cancer screening, but none of these tests are specifically able to detect ovarian cancer. Traditionally, it was believed that ovarian cancer does not produce any characteristic symptoms until the tumor is widespread, and that early symptoms of ovarian cancer were not recognizable.

Prostate Cancer

Colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer

Prostate cancer

Definition of prostate cancer: Cancer that forms in tissues of the prostate (a gland in the male reproductive system found below the bladder and in front of the rectum). Prostate cancer usually occurs in older men.

Estimated new cases and deaths from prostate cancer in the United States in 2008:

New cases: 186,320

Deaths: 28,660

Colorectal cancer

Definition of colon cancer: Cancer that forms in the tissues of the colon (the longest part of the large intestine). Most colon cancers are adenocarcinomas (cancers that begin in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids).

Definition of rectal cancer: Cancer that forms in the tissues of the rectum (the last several inches of the large intestine before the anus).

Estimated new cases and deaths from colon and rectal cancer in the United States in 2008:

New cases: 108,070 (colon); 40,740 (rectal)

Deaths: 49,960 (colon and rectal combined)

Healing Prayer

Causes of Cancer

When Lazarus, brother of Mary and Martha was sick, his sisters sent word, saying "Lord, behold he whom thou lovest is sick." When Jesus heard that, he said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby" (John 11:3,4).

Causes may be due to many things. It may be due to genetic factors, food, environment and other causes.

CASES OF CANCER CURED

Last year, the son of Dn. Apollos Lee in the church was diagnosed with cancer of the throat. He informed the members of the church throughout Canada, America, Malaysia, Australia, and other parts of the world. David Lee is a young man of 31 years old with a wife and two young children. The church earnestly prayed for him and within six months, he was well again and working. Faith in Jesus Christ is what is important in the life of a Christian, All glory to Jesus Christ, the miracle worker. Thank God for His mercy and love toward the Lee family.

In 2004, Deacon A. Lee's nephew, Brian Loh was cured of leukemia in Melbourne, Australia after much prayers by the church. At the time he was studying Pharmacy and now he is working as a pharmacist. Thank the Lord for His Mercy!

Charles Chen, grandson of Zhou Xue Xian told me that his grandmother who lives in Fu Shan, Fuzhou, China was diagnosed twice of esophagus cancer last year. His father, Zhong-Yi Chen returned to China to see her. After much prayers by the family here, the Church in Toronto and the churches in mainland China, she was healed and did not undergo operation. Praise the Lord and thank Him for His goodness, love and mercy. Bro. Zhong-Yi comforted me and told me in church today to tell my sister Julie who has ovarian cancer to have faith in God. After church service today on Saturday, July 12, 2008, our family will visit Julie. May the Lord keep her in peace and joy in the Lord. Please continue to pray for her.

The nephew (a Catholic) of my aunt (by marriage) had cancer of the brain. The mother appealed for prayer and we had different prayer groups praying for him and he recovered and is working in Singapore. God heals Christians of different denominations. The key word is "FAITH". Praise the Lord Jesus for listening to our prayers.

The world views sickness differently. Cancer may be due to genetic factors, environment, food and life style among others. They trust in their doctors, and specialists in different areas. BUT WHO GIVES KNOWLEDGE TO MEN? Remember Solomon! He asked for wisdom and knowledge from the Lord and the Lord granted him, "Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; (2 Chronicles 1:11,12). The Lord Jesus is our greatest physician. Praise Him!

Trials and Tribulations

Christians are not perfect people, but if they completely rely on Jesus Christ when confronted with problems, He will see them through with hope for the future. Jesus said in John 16:33, "These things I have spoken unto you, that in ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

FAITH IN PRAYER

Jesus has overcome the world, and He can solve every problem under the sun, be it spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and financial, then when we rely on Him to help us, we are comforted and feel safe. Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Be not afraid, only believe" (Mark 5:36). The child was raised from the dead.

In Mark 11:24, Jesus reiterated about the effects of belief, "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them."

Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (7) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Word of God Is Tried

1. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him (2 Samuel 22:31).

2. But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold (Job 23:10).

3. But thou, O Lord, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee (Jeremiah 12:3).

4. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand (Daniel 12:10).

5. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him (James 1:12).

Test of Faith

A Test of Faith

The two sisters and two brothers attacked by cancer have to rely on the Lord Jesus Chrst to solve their problems. When we believe in such an almighty and limitless God, we have no fear of any thing. When we rely on Him, we have peace within ourselves and trust that whatever the future may be, it is the best solution that will be. Sister Eugenia Khaw (Wong) with the breast cancer was called back by the Lord in Melbourne, Australia in May, 2005. When, where or how we go back to the Lord is in His hands and we trust in Him. None of the patients smoke or drink. We were brought up by our parents to have a "family prayer" every night before going to bed.

The cancers have brought Julie, John and Tuck closer to God and we are very pleased with this. The fact that they understand this is very important. When faced with problems, seek the Lord. God brought us from where we were born in a Muslim country, Malaysia to Christian countries like America, Australia and Canada. God had a beautiful and wonderful plan to spread His gospel through the world. God led my father to start His church, a non-denominational and an indigenous church originally from Beijing (1917), China to Canada. The church was the third largest church in China before the Communists took over. No Communist country can suppress the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is written in Matthew 24:14, "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
