Alternative Spirituality for Easter

Updated on March 29, 2013

For those of us who wish to celebrate the Easter Holidays with an alternative slant on spirituality, there are other options to capture the essence of the resurrection story.

A time of rebirth, potentiality, and change.

It's no coincidence that the Easter holiday coincides with spring. This celebration was originally piggy-backed on a pagan holiday honoring the goddess Eastre, who represented fertility in nature and rebirth from the long winter months.

This is a time demonstrating new growth, as the first flowers of the year begin to burst forth.

Also at this time, seeds of potentiality are sown that will bring forth their nutritious bounty at harvest time.

Daffodil Time Lapse - symbols of new growth

A celebration of human potentiality

Daffodils are a great psychological representation of potentiality.

They burst through the ground in the harshest conditions, braving the frost and hoping to be warmed by the sun. They turn their faces toward the heat and open their tight buds with courage, and brazen colour, trumpeting the coming of spring.

We bring them into our homes green and closed looking like nothing but stems, but we have already anticipated the joy they will bring. With nothing more than water, within a few days, they expose their true beauty and simplicity..we merely give them the chance to shine.

How we can blossom

We can consider this time as an opportunity to plan our later blooming.

We may not value our achievements right at the moment, or immediately see a way forward, but we have the chance to use our limitless potentiality to bring something of great value forward.

Planting the seeds of good intentions will always provide rewards to us and cause an impact in the world. With the warmth of the sun and the rain, providing us with the fruits of the earth there is nothing that we can't achieve.

As time progresses we literally grow as people. We make not take religious teachings literally at this time of year, but that does not mean there is nothing to learn. Common wisdom in teaching is always a great place to start, we can save ourselves a lot of time on our life path by learning from others and from their perspectives on life.

Happy Easter!

Wishing you joy during this Easter holiday.

May all the seeds you plant come to fruition.

May you grow in wisdom throughout this fresh new Year full of new energy and new life.
