A Fun New Years Eve~Tips for Finger Foods and More...
Finger Foods at New Years Eve Buffet
Happy, Healthy New Year
Here we are on the brink of another new year. I always get a bit sentimental and nostalgic on New Years Eve as we look back at the previous year and look forward in hope, to a new one. I want to wish all my dear HubPages friends, a Happy and Healthy New year and thank you for your love and support here.
As many of us celebrate ringing in the New Year tonight, I thought it would be fitting to put up a video and lyrics of the Auld Lang Syne song. Whether your sitting at home on New Years Eve watching Dick Clark's Rockin Eve celebration, or going out on the town, you will most likely hear the infamous song, "Auld Lang Syne". The song was written by a Scottish poet by the name of Robert Burns in the eighteenth century. It's well known for ringing in the new year as the clock strikes midnight, but this song is used for other occasions as well. The song was not written as a holiday song or intended for new years eve.
Lyrics to 'Auld Lang Syne'
Lyrics to "Auld Lang Syne"
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup
and surely I’ll buy mine!
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.
CHORUS
And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.
History of New Years Eve & 'Auld Lang Syne' Song
In 1929, Guy Lombardo's band played the tune as a segue between radio programs during a live performance at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. By sheer coincidence, they played "Auld Lang Syne" just after the clock struck midnight. This was how the new year's eve tradition was born.
What does "Auld Lang Syne" mean?
This Scottish song title translates into English as:Times Gone By, The Good Old Times and Old Long Since. The meaning of the term is about remembering friends from the past and not letting them be forgotten.
God Bless you all and have a wonderful and safe New Years Eve. I'll be bringing in the new year with my best friend who is my twin sister, as we watch Dick Clark's Rockin Eve special. It's tradition to put out a delicious buffet of our favorite finger foods which we graze on throughout the evening. So far, we've always made midnight.
