Christmas by the Bay: Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin in Door County. Home tours and more.
Sturgeon Bay is a city in Door County, Wisconsin, which, in my observation, must be among the most popular places to go in the state. It’s population is about 9,400.The county is basically a peninsula with Green Bay on one side and Lake Michigan on the other.
Sturgeon Bay’s Christmas celebration is called “Christmas by the Bay. With a parade, holiday home tour and other things from November 19 through November 21. There is much to see in this city even without the events, so plan on spending some time.
Happily lodging rates are seasonally low. The Stone Harbor Resort ordinarily has a Thanksgiving dinner spread. Or, you may want to take a drive up the peninsula to explore the other towns.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers have a great marching band. Many civic organizations and individual families march each year. Santa will be there as well. It starts on Madison Ave, crosses Memorial Bridge and follows Third Ave., turns North on Jefferson Street. It ends at Sixth Avenue where Santa will be waiting for everyone to catch up. A lot of candy is thrown out for the kids to scramble after.
After the parade Santa will be at the Door County Historical Museum on Fourth Avenue. Kids can see him until mid-afternoon on Saturday. Or, you might find him at the breakfast buffet at the Stone Harbor Resort Sunday morning.

Other things to do while in Sturgeon Bay
Theater
The Third Avenue Playhouse in downtown on third ave. is an old theater once known as the Donna. It was once a movie house. It is quaint and has unusual talent for a small town drama group. For movies there is the Sturgeon Bay Cinema six-plex theater on Egg Harbor road.
Like many others I am drawn to visit Door County, as it is a beautiful area. I am not sure why they celebrate Christmas in November but I guess this way you can do to twice.
