Funny and Unusual Mother's Day Cards and Ads
It is Mother's Day weekend; time once again to share occasion-themed items from my private collection. This batch is a little short on the greeting cards, but I have gathered ads which I think are just as interesting. Please remember these items are shared solely for entertainment purposes; so a word of caution: if you do not care for unintentional irreverence or subjective humor, you shouldn't continue reading this hub. However, if you do like a good laugh and aren't easily offended, I think you'll enjoy what follows.
I also wish a fantastic holiday to all the moms, step-moms, grandmothers, foster moms and other lady readers who have given their love, time and labor to a child without expecting anything in return but the welfare of that child. May your Mother's Day be filled with affection and good memories!
GREETING CARDS
This first card is one I really wouldn't be surprised to get from one of my own.
This next card suggests the sender has a mom who is definitely unforgettable, at least in some Stephen Kingish sort of way?
We don't have to even guess about what this card suggests.
Enough of the troubling images! Here is a beautifully sentimental greeting, with an equally beautiful image. One, I'm sure, Sigmund Freud might have snatched right up from the card bin and sent to his own dear mother.
Angels are always popular images, and this one is sure to reassure mom that someone is looking out for her..yes, even as she's envisioning him dancing on a pole at a nightclub!
ADS & PROMOTIONS
I think the real message to be found in this ad is more like: If you really care about mom and don't want to embarrass her, use spell-check before taking a frick'in ad to print!
Well, I guess if candies or flowers isn't your mom's thing, but Nazi memorabilia is...
I don't know if Sean is still in business, but rumor has it his son got a little too close to a hot Kawasaki engine one day and well, there went HIS career.
This one is almost beyond redemption for the undeniable use of doublespeak. However, I do feel it's safe to say Oprah Winfrey probably has nothing to do with this restaurant.
WHAT? You can't find a thoroughly used diaper pail on sale anywhere these days!!
Yes, it is dedicated care for the comfort of one's customers that can make or break a business!
If we take Polly's advice here, mom might just end up shoving the thoughtful gift where someone's sun don't shine!
Circa 1997, this Classified's "happy ad" reads like a forerunner to stories we've seen in many recent news headlines. And it always left me wondering if the art teach ended up giving her pupil a reason to celebrate Father's Day?
Yep, "Mom" here looks like she's one Valium shy and away from pressing that sausage but good.
