The best things you can give are gifts your child makes themselves. I have many pencil cans, magnets, wreaths, and Santa’s lovingly made from former students. These are the gifts I treasure more than the most expensive store bought baubles.

Another great thing to buy are gift cards. A gift card for a teacher supply store, or something similar that will help buy more supplies for the classroom are very much appreciated by teachers. Since most teachers I know spend a lot of their own money for supplies, this helps tremendously.

Games, dry erase markers, crayons, glue and paints are another great gift. These supplies help all of the students, and provide rainy day activities. Again, buying this type of gift helps the teachers keep some of their hard-earned dollars.

Gift cards for special treatment at a spa, or scented lotions are another gift that teachers enjoy. This type of gift helps take some of the stress away from teachers. A gift basket with lotion, nail polish, inexpensive perfume, etc. will help make a teacher feel pampered.

Again, my very favorite gifts are those that the children make themselves. Maybe you can get together with other parents and the students and make a big gift for the teacher. You might have the students write about their favorite activities in class and draw a picture of it and put them all together to make a class book. Or have students all use fabric paint to draw favorite activities on quilt squares and make a class quilt.

Whatever you decide to do, just be aware that the teacher will love it. Usually, the teacher is in the profession because he or she loves children. Because of this, any reminder of their students is the best gift that they can receive.
