Healthy Halloween Trick-or-Treat Snacks
Trick-or-treating means a bucket full of candy, chocolate and hyper children! Here are some healthy Halloween trick-or-treat snacks that will be a hit with the children who come to your door! Their parents will love having treats for their children that will be healthier! They are easily found in any grocery store....you just need to know what you are looking for!
Mini Fruit and Veggie Trays Made Fun
Fun shaped containers can make a healthy snack as delightful as it is nutritious! Vegetables, fruit, cheese, crackers and pretzels that come in fun containers will be a favorite treat on Halloween night! This is one treat that won't stay in the sack! Parents will be glad to break it open! Individually packaged and sealed, these are handy and easy to give as well. Children love the novelty, while the healthy bites take the edge off of the sugar rush they will inevitably have from all the candy!
There were a variety of packages. I found carrots and dressing, apples and caramel, and there was apples and peanut butter. As always, please use caution with children you do not know with peanut butter. It should only be given to children over the age of 3, especially when you don't know the child. Many children have peanut allergies and some may not yet be aware. I have a mild peanut allergy and it can be ugly! No small child should have to deal with that! That being said, these are amazingly inexpensive treats with most costing less than a dollar.
Cool Drinks
Who says a treat has to be something to chew on? No child can resist these really cool drink containers and the juice inside makes it a healthy alternative to soda pop! In addition, these can be reused and refilled by parents later on which makes them a lasting treat. There are a large variety of the characters and designs available which makes it easy to find something that will delight the child in your life.
The Littlest Ones
Trick-or-treating starts early! That may be because there are such adorable costumes for infants! Well...don't leave them out! There are plenty of delightful treats for them as well! My favorite is the fruit and vegetable purees that come in a sippy type container! Yes, fruit and veggies they will LOVE which will be a great treat for them on Halloween night! It is easy to transport, great tasting and nutritious! That's a win for baby AND mom!
For those who are in the finger food stage, think about crackers and veggie puffs. They are perfect for those little pinchers that are toddlers love to work! These are often found in the baby department as well as the grocers. Look around and you will spot them! They are similar to cereal bites, but they dissolve in their mouths, so even those who are just learning to chew serious solids can enjoy these!
Non-Food Items
We are so used to thinking about food treats for trick-or-treating, that we often overlook some really fun non-food items. There are stick-on tattoos, funny straw glasses and a multitude of other things throughout many stores. '
A fun pair of holiday socks will make any kid's favorite treat list for weeks to come! Don't overlook books, coloring books and sticker books when you are thinking about treats for the characters who will be haunting your door! For special tricksters, find something they enjoy like Legos or puzzles and look for one that you can give. It will be a longer lasting treat than a chocolate bar!
Go Crackers!
When all else fails, you can always go crackers! Or, should I say, go with crackers! Whether it is goldfish crackers or graham crackers, children LOVE crackers!! There are rainbow colors and all kinds of shapes to choose from. These are also something that you can eat up yourself if the little tricksters don't make it around to your house! Buying them in individual size packages makes them easy to hand out and practical to keep! Give them a try, you'll love them!
Be Creative
There are many things you can do to get a fun and creative treat out there for the little ones who come trick-or-treating to your door. You can take a simple item and customize it to be a cute and fun treat! Small simple things can make an everyday treat into a fun snack for children. A black sharpie or even black electrical tape can take a snack package of peaches all the way to Jack-O-Lantern snacks. A string cheese stick quickly becomes a ghost with a little time and some eyes! Try being creative and see what you will come up with!
