Tips and Ideas for Celebrating Valentine's Day in Delhi

February cometh and so is Valentine’s Day. Love is in the air and couples young and old wait eagerly for 14th of February to spend some quality time with their spouse and lover. When it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day in Delhi, couples always face a dilemma as to where and how to spend quality time. Another worry factor is the moral brigades who have labeled celebration of Valentine’s Day in India as immoral and go out of their way to “punish” couples, especially younger ones, who gather at various public places to celebrate their love.

Listed below are 10 ways to have a memorable Valentine’s Day outing with the person you love. These ideas are a mix of unusual, out of the box and traditional ideas to give you flexibility to choose what suits best to your needs and likes:

Old Delhi & Chandni Chowk

Now don’t get me wrong but it will be really fun to travel down the history lane as you visit colossal Red Fort. Do take her to Mumtaj Mahal Palace inside which has been converted into museum. Then let your imagination run wild as you explore the various structures built for specific purposes. Just imagine how they would have wooed each other. Then there is Paranthe Waali Gali which is a true gourmand’s delight. Care to visit Daryaganj (Nai Sarak) and and buy him that book he was talking about…that too at sometimes unbelievable discounts.

History meets haute couture at Hauz Khas Village, Green Park home to medieval monuments, art galleries, boutiques, upscale eateries & a lush deer

Hauz Khas Village

A Place where past meets present, style meets refinement, and traditional meets high couture, Hauz Khas Village is surprisingly now that popular among Indians. It’s a must visit place for you if you haven’t done so and ensure that both of you visit this gem of a place this Valentine’s Day. There are bagel cafes, travel cafes, award winning restaurants, historical monuments a sprawling park and a huge water tank. There’s so much to keep you busy for the day. Believe me you are going to enjoy it here. And hey! Did I forget to mention Deer Park?

I'd like to mention a little history Hauz Khas Village. The Tank after which this place is named was build by Alaudin Khilji to supply water to people of his new founded city Sisri. Later, the tank was de-silted and restored by Firoz Shah Tughlaq to cater to water needs of his newly founded city Firozabad and a Madarsa and Mosque was built overlooking the royal tank. Later Firuz Shah. Thiese historical monuments are good place to take your partner to and also provide good photo ops. Various movies have used this place to shot some scenes latest being the Rockstar.

You could do some bargain shopping too but most of the boutiques located here are upscale with their main target audience being international visitors. Restaurant here are also quite expensive but many of them are quite affordable and anyway who givers a darn to spending on Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day in Connaught Place

Agrasen ki Baoli is a relatively unknown monument and is a good place to spend some time with your spouse or friend in serenity.

Connaught Place, New Delhi

There is so much to do in Connaught Place. My suggested itinerary would be to go have a scrumptious South Indian breakfast in Sarvana Bhavan and then head to Agrasen Ki Baoli which is located on Hailey Road and is short walking distance from Jantar Mantar. Spend an hour or two in peace with your beloved and come back to Janpath. Shop as much as you like and bargain hard. Eat some street food and catch a movie in any of the multiplex. After the movie, head to any decent restro-bar. For refinement head to United Coffee House reminiscent of British Raj or for better menu and service go to QBA. If it’s sizzlers and Hookah then head for Gola. There are two Gola Restaurant one of which offers Hookah after 8:00 PM and the other has delicious sizzlers and a private lounge open after 7:00 PM where you could spend some quality time in privacy over drinks and food.

A sprawling garden located near Khan Market in Delhi, Lodi Garden is an ideal place to relax, sit, walk, talk and sightseeing.

Lodi Garden, New Delhi

This one is my favorite if it’s not a weekend. A perfect place for relaxing, talking, walking, photography, sightseeing and spend some really quality time. This sprawling lush park is a delight to visit. This park houses a number of tombs and mosque dating back to Sultanate era in Delhi. The monuments belong to rulers of Lodi and Sayyid dynasty, last of the sultans of Delhi who could not built city as was the precedent of those times as Timur had just ransacked Delhi of its wealth.

The park also has some of the cleanest and well maintained restrooms. You could spend an entire day with your spouse/partner in perfect serenity. Paved pathway surrounded by columns of Deodar and Chir tree adding to the romance of the gardens.

Located on the borders of the garden is the Lodi, Garden Restaurant. There are a few restaurants where you don't much care about the food being served; you just go there for the ambience. Lodi: The Garden Restaurant is a dream place to dine especially in winters as you are served on the lawns overlooking picturesque Lodi Garden. If you crave for shopping or more dining option, then the fancy Khan Market is nearby. Lodi Garden is an amazing place to spend your Valentine’s Day in Delhi.
