Celebrating The Labor Day Holiday
What Does The Labor Day Holiday Represent?
The Labor Day Holiday recognizes the workers of America and how important they are to the way democracy runs. Labor Day is celebrated each year on the first Monday of September. Labor Day came about as a result of workers that died during the Pullman Strike. President Grover Cleveland made sure that the rights of the workers were recognized. Labor Day was first celebrated in 1882 by the Central Labor Union with a parade to honor workers. The first parade was attended by about 10,000 workers that wanted to show a unified support for the holiday. Basically Labor Day is a day to emphasize the importance of the strength and spirit of the American worker.
Each year since then Labor day has been celebrated to honor the worker. Originally it was celebrated with parades, festivals and speeches. Currently it is celebrated as a day off for workers so they can enjoy time with their families with picnics and other gatherings. It also marks the traditional end of Summer and back to school time.
