Merry Christmas Hubbers

Updated on December 30, 2010

I just want to wish all of the hubbers who have followed me and have taken the time to comment on my hubs, and wish you a very Merry Christmas.

Here is a few of my favorite Christmas songs and Movie scenes.

Little Drummer Boy

"The Little Drummer Boy," also known as "Carol of the Drum," is a popular Christmas song written by pianist Katherine K. Davis in 1941. It was popularised by the version of the Harry Simeone Chorale and has been adapted many times since. The lyrics tell of a poor young boy who, unable to afford a gift for the infant Jesus, plays his drum for the newborn with the Virgin Mary's approval. The newborn seems to understand and smiles at the boy in gratitude. The story is somewhat similar to an 12th century legend retold by Anatole France as Le Jongleur de Notre Dame (French: Our Lady's Juggler), which was adapted into an opera in 1902 by Jules Massenet. In the French legend, however, a juggler juggles before the statue of the Virgin Mary, and the statue, according to which version of the legend one reads, either smiles at him or throws him a rose (or both, as in the 1984 television film, The Juggler of Notre Dame.)

Bob Seger

O Holy Night

In 1847, Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure was the commissionaire of wines in a small French town. Known more for his poetry than his church attendance, it probably shocked Placide when his parish priest asked the commissionaire to pen a poem for Christmas mass. Nevertheless, the poet was honored to share his talents with the church.

In a dusty coach traveling down a bumpy road to France's capital city, Placide Cappeau considered the priest's request. Using the gospel of Luke as his guide, Cappeau imagined witnessing the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Thoughts of being present on the blessed night inspired him. By the time he arrived in Paris, "Cantique de Noel" had been completed.

Charlie Brown, best explains Christmas...

Charlie Brown finds himself depressed at Christmas time, searching for the true meaning of the holiday amidst the glitz and commercialism of the modern age. He finds his answer in the passage below:

"And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them! And they were sore afraid ... And the angel said unto them, "Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings o great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord."

"And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on Earth peace, and good will toward men."

"That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." - Linus Van Pelt

 Merry Christmas!

Glad I found the Hub here. Happy New Year to all. I love O Holy Night, too. I think it's so profound. While I've struggled with my faith in recent years due to deep family challenges, I've grown to love some of the Christmas carols with deeper meanings. Sleigh Ride and Winter Wonderland are among the non-religious songs I enjoy. I've grown less and less enamored with Santa songs.

A belated Merry Christmas to you! "O Holy Night" has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever composed. I love it! It was good to read of the origin of it and the "Little Drummer Boy" too. Thank you.
