My home for the holidays
Are you going home for the holidays??? I get asked this question all the time from my family and my husbands family. Am I going "home" for the holidays? Why do they have to ask it like that? Don't they know I AM home?
Before I got married "home" was always wherever my mom was. I was never really at home unless I was at her house. When people would ask me if I was going home for Christmas I would say "yes, of course I'm going home."
Now that I'm married when people ask me if we are going home for the holidays I still understand what they mean but don't they realize that we have our own home now? These days home for the holidays means staying right in our new house, as a family, with friends and relitives over to enjoy it all with us. Home is right here next to my husband and our three kids. We are finally able to say we have a home and it is that much more exciting to me this year.
I do miss going to my mom's for the holidays though. I miss the baking cookies and candies. I miss sitting around doing puzzles and playing cards. I miss my brothers and sisters all crowding in the kitchen. I miss my mom the most of all. One year we might be able to go to mom's again for the holidays but this year, we are staying home, in our own home.
This year I am most grateful to have my husband home with us. Because he's in the Army he spends more holidays away then he does at home and being able to celebrate the holidays in our new home together is just what I needed this holiday season. Next year we might not get so lucky so we have to make the most of the time we do have.
So, where is your "home for the holidays"? Is it with your parents at their house, friends and family homes, or is your home the home to be at for the holidays? I wish you all a SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON :)
