Preventing Fires

Fire safety precautions need to be taken when keeping an artificial tree in your house. The burning tree, once catch fire can readily fill a compartment with fire along with poisonous gases. Faulty wiring and overloaded electrical outlets are one of the most common causes of seasonal house fires. It doesn't matter if the tree is artificial or real, if a fire sparks due to your wiring, the tree will still burn.

Never keep the tree closer to any heat source, including a fireplace or heat vent.

Artificial tree can easily catch fire by either of heat or sparks.

Precaution during Decoration and Lighting

Inspect Christmas lights for frayed wires and bare spots as well as broken sockets, and excessive kinking or wear before putting them up. Use those lighting accessories only, which are approved by a testing laboratory. Make sure to periodically check the wires - they should not be warm to the touch.

As far as possible, you should use only non-flammable Decorations or flame-retardant and be placed away safely away from heat sources such as the fireplace.

The size of the tree is also to be considered. If you have little one there you need not worry but otherwise precaution has to be taken. Bigger the tree, the bigger is the chance of toppling of the tree. So the place where to keep the tree is a very important issue. It is always better to keep the big sized tree in the corner of the house.
