Ordering Flowers Online is Easy

The Internet and online ordering has been a boon to the floral industry. No longer do you have to walk into a florist’s shop to purchase flowers for someone living locally. No longer do you have to go to a florist’s shop to look at photographs of floral arrangements if you want to have flowers wired to someone living in another city, state, or country. All you have to do is go to your computer and visit one of the many Web sites accepting online floral orders. My favorite online florist is ProFlowers®. Another company from which I have ordered is 1800Flowers.

Flowers are a gift appreciated by most women, and even some men. When ordering flowers for someone, do you take into consideration the number of flowers you’re giving or the color or the variety? Use the information contained in this Hub before sending flowers to someone.

Some Cautions

Some online florists will send flowers to recipients in other countries. The color and number of flowers to be sent is an important consideration.

If sending flowers to Austria, don’t send red roses, red carnations, or an even number of flowers. Red roses have a romantic connotation and red carnations are reserved for May Day. An even number of flowers is considered bad luck. For Germany, don’t send red roses, an even number of flowers, or 13 flowers.

Chrysanthemums shouldn’t be sent to anyone in Western Europe. They’re only used in cemeteries on All Souls’ Day. White lilies are considered to be a symbol of death in England, Scotland, and Wales, as are dahlias in Spain. Purple flowers are a symbol of death in Brazil.

For some classes of people in Mexico, yellow flowers are a symbol of death. Red flowers cast spells, and white flowers remove spells.

Don’t think about sending flowers to someone in Tanzania or Tonga. Flowers aren’t given as gifts in either county.

What do flower colors mean?

Every flower color has a meaning. When deciding which flowers to send, don’t forget the importance of choosing the right color of flower.

Blue flowers symbolize calmness and tranquility.

Burgundy flowers have been dedicated to the memory of Michael Jackson.

Green flowers are a symbol of optimism.

Lavender flowers signify womanhood in her prime

Orange flowers indicate confidence, energy, and fun. Colors can be ginger, vermillion, coral, or apricot.

Peach flowers indicate friendship.

Pink flowers are a symbol of grace, elegance, caring, and happiness. They should be sent as an expression of admiration — when the feeling is more “like” than “love.”

Purple flowers signify respect and admiration.

Red flowers are a symbol of love, romance, and passion. Dark reds indicate deep and abiding love, and brighter reds indicate passion.

White flowers symbolize innocence and purity.

Yellow flowers indicate cheer, joy, happiness, and friendship.

What is the recipient's birth month flower?

Did you know that every month has a birth month flower associated with it? And that each of these flowers has a special meaning? When sending flowers as a birthday gift, the birth month flower is something to consider.

Ordering Tips

  • When ordering flowers online, you’re going to need the name, address, and telephone number of the recipient. Florists usually won’t accept online orders if you don’t have the person’s telephone number.
  • Plan ahead when ordering. The shipping / delivery charge is often less money if you place your order several days in advance of the desired delivery date.
  • An extra delivery fee is added to orders when the requested delivery date is a Saturday.
  • Remember to include a card. You don’t want to go to all the trouble of ordering flowers for someone and then forget to let the person know who the sender is…or do you?
