Unique and Fun Baby Shower Gifts
Welcoming a new little life into the world with a baby shower can be a fun, wonderful thing to do for friends and family. Many traditions are wrapped up in the standard baby shower, with it's food, games, and gifts.
But why not branch out a bit? At the next shower you attend, maybe consider giving Mama and Baby something a little bit out of the ordinary-- a change of routine from the adorable outfits, practical diapers, and useful blankets. I'm sure the mother will appreciate it, especially a gift tailored to her tastes.
A Basket of Books
Being something of a bibliophile, this idea is particularly appealing to me and probably would be to anyone who likes books. If neither parent is much of a reader, it might not be the best thing, but there are plenty of people who would still appreciate this idea. Simply pick out a few of your favorite children's books, arrange them prettily in a basket or decorative box, and you've got something to give that will last longer than the first few months and years of baby's life.
If you want to add in something more traditional, tucking in a few pairs of cute little socks or sleeper will make it that much more fun. Assuming that Mama loves books too, add in something for her to enjoy on those quiet afternoons when baby is asleep.
Personalized Vinyl Lettering or Signs
I've written about it before, but it stands repeating. Vinyl is extremely popular and a great way to make a personalized gift, and you can make it something that will be used for years to come.
There's the great idea of a name sign with the baby's name and the meaning of it, but some couples keep the name a secret until after the little one has made their grand entrance. If that's the case, you can always find some suitable quote to use, or give a gift certificate.
A Treat for Mom
Everyone's excited about the new little person who's about to make their grand entrance, and most of the gifts tend to lean in that direction. But what about the Mom? Consider giving her something that suits her tastes. If she like massages, get her a gift certificate. If chocolate, coffee, teas or anything of the like is what does it for her, find something of a good quality that she'll enjoy.
Here's another thought, that requires giving a bit more of yourself, but will definitely be appreciated. Give a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant and make the offer to take care of baby (after he/she is a little bit older, of course) while the parents go out for a date night. It will probably end up being one of her favorite gifts.
Start a Savings Account
Everyone knows how tough the economy has been, and what a great idea it is to save as much as possible. So get baby started early with a bank of some sort with a starter fund in it. You can label it as a college fund, or savings, or anything else you wish. Or fill it with gift cards for the parents to use when their rather pricey bundle of joy comes.
If piggies aren't quite in keeping with the nursery decor, a quick browse on the internet can give you lots of cute and clever options. This cute little bank from the 60s was found on Etsy for a great price, and it definitely had character. So have fun looking!
With all of these ideas, the gist is to give something that is unique and original. Everyone appreciates a gift that has taken thought and time to get together, so be creative! You know your friends and what suits them, so be sure to add that special touch that tells them that this gift truly was given with consideration and love.
