Unusual Valentines Day Ideas

A Smelly Valentine?

Weird but a winner?

So, you want to do something different for that special someone on Valentine's Day? Well here is a winner for you. New York City's Department of Environmental Protection is offering tours of its state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant at Newtown Creek in Brooklyn on Valentine's Day. It seems they offer tours every 2nd and 4th Tuesday and since this tour falls on Valentine's Day they will be giving out Valentine's Kisses to all who take the tour on Valentine's Day.

Included in the end of the tour is the gigantic egg-shaped "Digester" which functions much like a human stomach. It takes in toxic sludge and turns it magically into usable by products. Remember, this is Newtown Creek we are talking about here. A waterway that is so foul that the federal government is commissioning an emergency cleanup!

Honey, this may not be palatable, but it is definitely unforgettable!

A Truly Romantic Spot

Get In On This One Before Its Too Late!

This idea started about five years ago in an Atlanta GA Waffle House. Dinner reservations for Valentine's Day at Waffle House. Talk about a winning romantic idea! I'm down for it! But as the Waffle House in Tifton, GA stated, reservations are going fast.

All sarcasm aside, (not) it is a budget worthy alternative for those of us with limited funds.

I still vote for the two entree with a shared appetizer offered at Applebee's. As my friend Kim says, "Now that's a romantic restaraunt!" (Look of amazement upon my face as she spouts this with all the sincerity she can muster).

Huff Post - Valentine's Day Romance and Dating

You have got to check out the link above if you are from the greater Los Angeles area. I myself am originally a Cali girl and have actually done some of these, admittedly not on Valentine's Day, but all are excellent ideas for a non-restaurant event for you and your loved one to enjoy on Valentine's Day. You may even be able to fit several of these in during the day, funds permitting.

The Angel's flight is a nice one, and so is the whale watching. The balloon ride can be very romantic, but they may ask you to use non-alcoholic bubbly if you want to celebrate a toast while still in the air.

The Gondola ride is nice, but get a reservation so she does not have to stand in line for hours!

Worst Ideas for Valentine's Day (as offered by Mind Hut)

So they are showing all 7 episodes of SAW at the Cineplex. Sounds like an awesome all day marathon, right? NOT! Unless you are my daughter of course, then yes it is an awesome idea!

Hot wings at the sports pub, they are so right! Keep that for your group date days.

Guess what? The Huffington Post in Los Angeles listed the Cirque De Soleil as a great non restaurant idea, but the guys at Mind Hut think Not! This is an instance of age range here I think. If she likes that kind of thing then go for it.

Last but not least they list your buddy's band playing a show and going to church on Valentine's day as loser ideas as well. Can't blame them there, not that there isn't a romantic thing about church, but save it for the wedding, OK?
