Weekend gateways from Singapore

Updated on October 24, 2011

What do we do on weekends in Singapore ?

Life in Singapore revolves more around weekends than otherwise. People are just waiting for an opportunity to travel out of Singapore. Here is one way to go after weekend gateways from Singapore

I take budget airlines when

See results

Rise of budget airlines

Air travel is the most efficient way to travel out of Singapore with increase in budget airlines. So ensure you are on mailing list of AirAsia, Jetstar, Tiger airways. Many times these offers trigger you to start looking for a weekend holiday

Earlier Senai airport in Johor Bahru used to be the only option for budget airlines, but now with new Budget Terminal at Changi Airport, there are plenty of options for budget travel. In fact, budget is becoming "holiday" travel

There is so much to do, keep a ready list

You can travel for variety of reasons around South East Asia like diving trips, shopping holidays, beautiful beaches, historical landmarks, different cultures and cuisines, nature reserves, and so on. Keep a list of spots ready on your list, where you want to go next, depending on your taste

The most inexpenssive air tickets

Once you get on to internet, browse through the 3 budget airline sites. Also ensure you do a quick check on Zuji (even though it does not show many inexpensive air tickets), and also your Singapore Airlines frequent flyer account. Best deal you can get is travel out of Senai Airport in Johor Bahru. You can just hire a car from Johor Bahru to pick you up from your home (Google to find one), this will probably cost you lesser than cab ride to Changi Airport during peak time

Hotel bookings

Do a quick check on sites like Tripadvisor, Virtualtouriest, and probably one local site in your destination country. Next will be lodging and boarding to take care of. Either look for for almost free places around Asia or, And you will find your best deal amongst these

Weekend car booking

If you drive book a car on internet or just hire a local car on internet, Google for a 10 min, send out 2-3 emails to car hire individuals. Normally, individuals hold a great record in region vs big companies. An individual has to be credible in Asia if he is savvy enough to be on internet and generate word of mouth

So that’s it, spend about 30 min on internet, get going for your weekend gateway from Singapore, in fact it will be quicker than it takes to reach your first booth in Natas fair

    Hi Sumeet,

Yes, Kota Kinabalu is one of the best places for a weekend getaway from Singapore.

There are many good resorts there and my favorite is Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort -

I always feel recharged after staying at the Tanjung Aru resort.
