What Should I Write on a Valentine's Day Card?

Updated on February 28, 2012

Valentine's Day Cards

Valentine's Day is one of those times of the year when you want to send a perfect card to those special people in your life. Sometimes, you can find a nice card, but are at a loss of what to say. Some people create their own cards, and need the perfect thing to write inside, or even on the outside. I have always loved sending and receiving cards, and now more than ever with less and less people using paper cards and greetings. If I am feeling creative, I love to make my own cards. I also really enjoyed working for one year at a Hallmark Store, where I think they have the best greeting cards. People love to come in and find that perfect card. Once in a while I would get a request to even help sign a card for a person, as they didn't like their own handwriting or something of that nature. No matter how you do it, it's a great gesture to send out a card or hand deliver it.

There are many great sayings out there if you are at a loss for words. I like to see what other great poets have said, why not borrow a famous quote about love from another? Hopefully, you can find something here or get an idea to come up with one on your own.

*Wishing You a Great, Big, Happy, Valentine's Day~

*Happy Heart Day, and Happy Every Day!~

"All love is sweet, Given or returned. Common as light is love, And its familiar voice wearies not ever... They who inspire it most are fortunate, As I am now; but those who feel it most Are happier still." From Prometheus Unbound, by Percy Bysshe Shelley

"Love, indeed, lends a precious seeing to the eye, and hearing to the ear: all sights and sounds are glorified b the light of its presence." Frederick Saunders

"By this dear relenting kiss, I'd no anger in my thought; Come, my love, by this and this, Let our quarrel be forgot." This one is from a 19th Century calling card.

"Love is a deep well from which you may drink often, but into which you may fall but once." Ellye Howell Glover

"Won't you come into the garden? I would like my roses to see you." Rose Henniker Heaton

"True Love. Thus hand in hand through life we'll go, Through checkered paths of joy and woe. We have loved on earth; May we love in heaven." From a 19th Century calling card.

"Valentine's Day
Is a wonderful way
To make "I love you"
Easy to Say."

"The happiest day of my life
was the day that I met you
Always loving and understanding
with a heart of gold too."

"To everyday there is a blessing.
To every moment there is a smile.
But since you came into my life,
each blessing has become a momentus smile
that I do not ever want to see fade away.
This rose is for you to remember forever.
I truly love you."
- Sherry Del Valle

You always show how much you care
with the loving things you do
From a tender kiss to a warm
embrace and whisper "I LOVE YOU"

"Fly, my sweet, and beauteous dove, Bear this letter to my love;  Winged messenger, with care, Bring my answer from the fair:  A heart that's constant still is mine, Lovely, lovely Valentine."  Carvalho

"Unchangeable. My heart shall be the faithful compass that still points to thee." Verse from a 19th Century calling card.

"My heart to you is given: oh, do give yours to me;  We'll lock them up together, and throw away the key."  Frederick Saunders

Sayings for friends on Valentine's Day

"Here's to friendship, the only rose without thorns!" From a book of toasts, 1904

"When Friendship once is rooted fast, It is a plant no storm can blast." From a 19th Century calling card.

"Real friendship is a slow grower; and never thrives unless engrafted upon a stock of known and reciprocal merit." From Good Manners, 1870

"May friendship, like wine, improve as time advances, and may we always have old wine, old friends and young cares."

"Friendship is a sheltering tree. Keep thy friend under thy own life's key." Ellye Howell Glover

"Fate gives us parents; choice gives us friends." From a book of Toasts 1904

For the One You Love

My love for you is deep and true
No matter what you do
I'll always be there for you
No matter where you go
I'll always be there beside you
Till the day I die
My love will always stay true to you

"Happy Valentine's Day to a person that brings so much meaning to my life. Thank you."

"I hope our love will always continue to grow. It is so good to know there will always be a you and me, and that the best is yet to be."

"For all the big and little things you do, here is wishing the Happiest Valentine's Day to you."

"I am so thankful for the way you help to complete my life. If I had it all to do over again, I would, in a heartbeat."

"To My Love, With All My Love."

"You are all I could ever want, and so much more than I deserve. Happy Valentine's Day."

Denise, I hear you there! I will be standing right there beside you, because I love paper cards. I love to send them, and hope they never disappear. Thank you so much for your kind words, and so happy to know there are people like you still out there. :)

I will be the last card sender standing, should they try to make cards obsolete. I love sending and receiving Christmas, Birthday, Valentine, St Patricks Day, Easter, and Thanksgiving cards. In between all of that I will send thank you's, hellos, congrats, etc etc get the idea.

      Wonderful hub. Loved the quotes.

Hi Kellis, if you are unsure as to whether to make or buy, I would say to make it yourself. You can always go and buy a card, but it takes an extra special touch to make it yourself. That would really impress your Valentine, I am thinking. :)

Happyboomernurse, thank you for the comment. I think the idea to put photos on cards is wonderful, and I have done that a few times, and hope to do it more in the future. Its an excellent idea and personal too.

Nice ideas. I love getting cards where it's obvious the words, even if they're from a Hallmark writer, match the loving relationship I'm in.

I also love to make cards using photos I've taken. Thanks for sharing your ideas in this hub.
