What not to do when you are on holiday abroad?

Updated on April 13, 2013

Many people spend many months saving for a dream holiday abroad. Indeed this is the best thing to do, life is for living. We all need to celebrate after hard work - play hard, work hard that is what good planners should do.Many people get carried away when they are on holiday abroad.I don't know whether it is like that because many people assume they have now found freedom or is it because they believe that what happens on holiday remains there? Overzealous holiday makers end up ruining their holidays abroad. Some even come back to their countries of origin in caskets.

Before people take the earliest plane to their holiday destinations, they have to give themselves some time to think about the consequences of being high on drugs and booze abroad. There are many situations which holiday makers need to avoid when on holiday abroad. At all cost holiday makers should try to avoid crime in a foreign land. They should know that they are subject to the laws of the holiday destination. If they are found on the wrong side of the law in foreign countries they would be treated harshly.

The law makers in those countries would want to set an example on them. They would want to show that their countries are safe havens for tourists. Some of the sentences given to holiday makers are shocking. Some people ended up being sentenced to death on crimes that do not carry a death sentence in their home countries. This reminds me of my Sunday school days when we were taught this saying: A prophet is without honour in a foreign land except among his own kinsmen.Indeed this saying sums it all. There is harsh treatment given to some holiday makers abroad.Guard against this,be responsible and be in control of your holiday abroad.

When abroad avoid drunken adventures into the locality alone. This is very dangerous because in most cases people don't know how to negotiate their way back. They don't speak the local language and worse still as tourists local people thought they have plenty of money.Be warned don't stray into the local community alone, one might end up raped, mugged or killed at gun point.Don't spoil it for everyone, explore your holiday destination with the tour guide.Going it solo is dangerous. You are foreign to the area and you are a target.

Don't do dangerous activities on the spur of the moment under the influence of alcohol. Avoid bungee jumping when drunk. Avoid being a naturalist on unfamiliar holiday destinations, some countries doesn't allow nudity in public. Makesure you avoid public drinking, some countries prohibits consumption of alcohol in public.

As for your finances don't put your eggs in one basket - have money in different forms such as traveller's cheques, cash and direct debit cards. If one of these is stolen life goes on because you have something to survive on. Don't be put off by the advise given in this article, it is only a stitch in time which may save nine.Plan your holiday in advance and go out and have some fun.
