Your Very Merry China: Christmas Dishes

Timeless Christmas dinnerware sets and collectibles

All your holiday feasts seem to taste better on china decorated with the patterns of the season. From vintage to contemporary sets, Christmas dishes add festive cheer to your holiday table. Available in many patterns and styles, holiday dishes have become collectible items that also make fine holiday gifts.

When entertaining or simply enjoying small family meals, these Christmas dinnerware sets make for an extraordinary table setting. Some sets may be purchased in full while others must be pieced together over time when items become available at online auction sites or china distributors. There are so many styles of holiday dishes to consider, but these particular sets are bound to add Christmas cheer to any holiday table. So let's start with some classic and timeless Christmas dinnerware sets:

Display Your Christmas Dinnerware Sets

This is a great book filled with ideas on how to display your plate collection (Christmas or not).

Lenox Pine Pattern China - Rare Christmas Dinnerware Set

This beautiful vintage set was made from 1951 through 1977. It features gold trim on a cream colored background. Dinner and salad plates feature a pine branch with pine cones in the center and smaller branches around the edges. The pattern is more rustic and understated than the typical holiday design-no Santas or snowmen. Yet, this seasonal pattern is reminiscent of the outdoors and is perfect to use throughout the fall and winter seasons. Lenox Pine is one timeless classic Christmas china dinnerware. My favorite too.

Royal Albert Poinsettia

This festive pattern was produced between 1976 and 1997. Mint pieces and replacements are still relatively easy to find and worth hunting for given this set’s holiday cheer. Bright red poinsettias are painted atop a creamy white background. This pattern is ideal for holiday entertaining throughout the season.

Spode Christmas Tree Grove - Elaborated Christmas Dinnerware

Crafted in England, Spode's signature Christmas tree was introduced in 1938. Designed in the Victorian style, this elegant set is colorful and features a large decorative tree in the center of each plate. The edges are filled with floral and swirl arrangements. This set is a classic and a favorite with collectors. These lovely dishes are still available for purchase from various vendors.

Wedgwood Sarah's Garden Christmas

Produced between 2001 and 2004, this set is understated, but all the more appealing for its subtle design. The dishes sport winter botanicals like pine sprigs and holly. The dinner plate's border features a lovely shade of cranberry red. This set is perfect for rustic or country settings.

Lenox Holiday Tartan - Lovely Christmas Dishes

This contemporary set sports a festive pattern of ribbons, fruits, acorns, berries, and holly. A border of 24-karat gold edges each plate. This lovely set is ideal for Thanksgiving through the winter holiday season. Platters and other serving dishes are also available in this lovely set.

Lefton Green Holly Christmas Dinnerware

This vintage set is still as striking as when it was produced in the 1960s and 1970s. The set is dark green with embossed holly leaves and bright red berries. Pieces are still widely available at china replacement companies and through online auction sites. It is an unusual set that makes for a most charming table setting. Affordable vintage set compare to the Lenox Pine set, even if you have to pick the pieces one by one.

J.C. Penney Modern Snowman

Produced between 2007 and 2009, this contemporary set is bold and kid-friendly. Dinner plates feature a white background. The foreground shows a black outline of a snowman with a red hat and scarf. He is standing beside a large black outlined snowflake. The top of the plate reads, "Laughing all the way" in festive red script.

JC Penney Snowman

Villeroy/Boch Toy's Delight

This set is still widely available. It began production in 2010 and features a unique floral shaped plate complemented by a traditional design-a green border filled with tiny seasonal ornaments. The scalloped edges make for an unusual place setting and the colors of green, red, and gold are striking.

Farberware White Christmas Dinnerware

This sweet set features a red barn and children. The pattern is decorated throughout the dinner plate. The colors are beautiful and bright. This set is perfect for a country or cottage décor. Produced between 1997 and 2003, pieces are still widely available at online auction sites or replacement china distributors.

Christian Dior Christmas - Hard to find Christmas china

Christian Dior Chritmas

This designer set was made between 1991 and 1996. Dinner plates feature a pearly white center encircled by a detailed border of Christmas instruments and ornaments. Coloration is subtle, yet distinct. Pieces are pricey if you can find them, but collecting this set is worth the hunt as Dior pieces are likely to hold their value.
