Christmas Holiday Solar Lights

Updated on November 16, 2013

Go Green with Solar Powered Christmas Lights

Solar powered lights for outdoor Christmas holiday lighting and displays is convenient, easy and earth-friendly.

Light up your home and garden like the Griswolds without being concerned about long extension cords, over-crowded outlets or overloaded circuits. You no longer need to worry about the danger of tripping over extension cords and you aren't limited to keeping lights and decorations near a power outlet. Solar powered lights make it easy to decorate even the most remote places of your property - even on a rural mailbox down the road or across the street.

Solar lights use photovoltaic cells to charge the batteries that power the LED lights after the sun goes down and most have a sensor that automatically turns the lights on after dark.

The only important thing to remember is that the photovoltaic cell chargers must be placed in the sunlight for at least 6 hours each day to power the light. Some lights have a separate solar panel attached with a cord that may be placed in the sun several feet from the lights and other decorations have a panel and light that are combined.

If the decoratio has a solar panel and light that is in one unit, you can place the light in the sun during the day to absorb the sunlight and move them to another area after the batteries have charged.

There are many different types to choose from including string lights, fairy string lights, net lights, rope or tube lights, icicle lights, path lights and other holiday decor. I love the fantastic variety of solar powered Christmas Lights and Decorations that are now available.

One of my favorites, is this colorful string of 50 multi-colored lights. I like to use them on the railing on my stairs and entry, similar to this photo.

White LED String Lights - Brighten the Night

I also like solar string lights in basic white with bright LED lights to lighten up a winter night, but they are available in several other colors or on multicolored strings. Especially convenient at locations distant from your home like a tree some distance from your house, fence, mailbox or lamp post.

Solar Fairy Lights - Tiny, glittering lights

Fairy lights are smaller than regular LED lights and look like tiny pinpoints of light which makes a beautiful twinkling display. They are available in different lengths and colors including basic white or several other colors to fit any holiday color theme. The white ones also work great for lighting for an outdoor evening wedding.
