Couple Costumes: Cool or Lame?

Updated on September 4, 2013

I love everything weird and colorful in this world, and I try to live a life that will make the world a little better once I'm gone.

What is your honest opinion of couple Halloween costumes?

Every Halloween thousands of couples around the world enter the same argument: to do a couple costume or not. Some people love them, others hate them.

A successful couple costume has to be one that both people are committed to. It has to be something that appeals to both of them. This is often quite hard to find. Also, there is the issue of whether the costume makes sense when they aren't standing directly next to each other. Being one half of a visual joke, when the other half is across the room can make for some unpleasant explaining.

So, what do YOU think? Are couple costumes cool or lame?

Great Costumes for Couples

These are a few of the best ones I've seen. The key is to be good for both people. Some sets are great for one partner, but terrible for the other.

We especially like couples who dress for a time period. If you chose a time and place and history, and both nail it, it's an amazing costume together. For instance, the 1920s or 1940s, or Victorian Era, or Wild West. But not the 1960s. Enough with the hippie costumes already!

Come on....isn't that Dexter one just awesome?! And that amusement ride pair - so creative!

Horrible Emasculating Costumes

"That Poor Guy..."

Often when I see people in couple costumes, I try to figure out whose idea it was. Sometimes it is so obvious the woman chose it, that I am a little sad for the guy involved. Did they try to put up a fight? Did they try to talk them out of it? Or were they so insecure in the relationship that they donned the outfit without argument?

If you do decide to dress as a pair, make sure you aren't totally emasculating the guy. Be fair. Choose a theme you can both be proud of.

Would You Participate in a pair costume? - Is this for you? Could you bring yourself to wear one? Would you be the one suggesting it? Do tell!

This Years Costume: Sexual Inuendo

You've got to be kidding, right?

Costumes like this are the worst!

Don't do this, people. Don't be "that couple". Don't gross out a whole party with your ridiculously over the top sexual innuendo costume. Try to have a little class. At least try.

His & Her Ideas

Fred and Daphne from Scooby Doo would make for a nice costume...or even Fred and Velma. We love Velma!

The Star Wars costume pair is also a geeky classic. What girl doesn't want to be Princess Leia for Halloween at least once?
