Dog Bookends - The Perfect Gift for the Dog Lover in Your Life

Updated on November 2, 2012

Dog Bookends - they're dog-gone (sorry...) cool and a great Christmas present!

I ran across a set of dog bookends at a local craft store recently and thought they'd be a great Christmas gift for a dog lover (like me!). Adding a bit of class and a bit of laughter to the bookshelf, dog bookends may feature a Dauschund, a Terrier or about any other dog breed.

Personalize your Christmas gift for a dog lover by adding a few appropriate books to the gift such as:

Through a Dog's Eyes: Understanding Our Dogs by Understanding How They See the World or

In a Dog's Heart: A Compassionate Guide to Canine Care, from Adopting to Teaching to Bonding

My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet.

A Christmas present of dog bookends for your VERY best friend

You're going to have to have money to burn to buy these rather expensive dog bookends for a Christmas present this year. Click the picture to see exactly how much...

Breed specific dog bookends

As I mentioned, there's about every type of dog breed represented when it comes to dog bookends. I personally like the more generic dogs but these are pretty cool too:

I HAVE to put in links to rescue groups...

Those of you who have followed any of my ramblings know that I'm currently owned by 4 rescued dogs and 1 confused rescue cat (he thinks he's a dog). So, since you're here looking at dog bookends, ostensibly to order for Christmas presents , how about visiting some of the notable dog rescue groups around?

Labrador Retriever Dog Bookends

I think these Labs look more serious than their normal, live, goofy counterparts, but maybe they're just looking smart. Whatever they're looking, I think they're beautiful.

These bookends are well made with a felt bottom to guard against scratching your furniture. These dog bookends are 7" tall and pretty sturdy. They'd be a great Christmas gift for a Labrador Retriever lover.

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive.

Buying your dog lover friend a few books to place inside those book ends is a good idea - Obedience books are always welcomed.

I used to take my Australian Shepherd, Killian, to Vermont once a year for an intense week long training session. I always brought along a book or two to help us advance. I've read all of the below books and loved each one. Grab one or two and give them to your Christmas gift recipient along with those cool dog bookends.

The Power of Positive Dog Training
The Power of Positive Dog Training
This is one of my favorite books. It takes you through understanding why dogs act the way they do and how to control the way they act. Killian responded very well to the lessons we learned in this book.

Cesar's Rules: Your Way to Train a Well-Behaved Dog

Sometimes he's right on and sometimes, not so much. At least that's my take on his training regime.

When Pigs Fly!: Training Success with Impossible Dogs
When Pigs Fly!: Training Success with Impossible Dogs
I had a particularly stubborn basset I was fostering and this book gave me some different pointers than I would have thought of.

10-Minute Dog Training Games: Quick and Creative Activities for the Busy Dog Owner (Volume 4)

There's some really fun training games in this book including following a pointed finger (fun party game) and Volleyball (Killian always wins...)

How to Behave So Your Dog Behaves

I've always said that I can train a dog to do almost anything but, training the people? Different story...

My own dogs

I was active in dog rescue, fostering and placing dogs, for many years before Mom came to live with me, and I had to give rescuing up in the interest of her (and the dogs'!) safety. I'll probably get back into it one day when this herd thins out. Here's some articles about my current dogs and assorted sundries. Note: that dog in the watercolor is my dog Killian. I took a great picture of him and used the watercolor filter in a paint program to transform it. I love it!

Baron Scottie Terrier bookends

There's something about the particular dog bookends that just makes me smile.

These dog bookends don hand painted collars (fancy...) and sit upon a gold base, as all dogs should. Each bookend is 8" tall and 5 1/2 inches long. I think these would look spectacular in an office or a home library.

Dog book ends for kids

Children should always be read to, and they should always have (or at least love) dogs. So, if you know an animal lover tot, a set of these dog bookends for kids would be a nice Christmas or Birthday present.

...That line changed my life 5 years ago when I put an ad out on a computer couple matching site. And, John replied. How the heck lucky am I?? Anyway, do you also love dogs. Leave me a little comment below to let me know you stopped by. I'll donate 1/2 bone to each of my dogs for each comment. Come on - Make 'em fat!
