Easy Superhero Costume Idea For Little Boys
He Can Be 'I Man'...Or Whatever Superhero He Wants To Be With These Easy Superhero Costume Ideas
'I Man.' I am sure you have all heard of him.
By day, he is an ordinary little boy named Ian but when the call goes out for a super hero, he becomes...'I Man.'
My son Ian (that's where the 'I' in 'I Man' comes from) went out one Halloween as 'I man' and I'll never forget that superhero costume, which was put together without too much fuss and bother by my husband and myself.
Yes, it was an easy superhero costume and yes, Ian absolutely loved it. I'll never forget how he was transformed the moment he slipped into that cape. He became 'I Man' and announced to the world as he raced around the yard, "I Man to the rescue!"
I'll also never forget his little friend that thought all along that Ian was going to be 'Eye Man.'
You, too, can make an I Man costume for your little super hero. Or maybe you'd rather a 'C Man' for Chris or a 'D Man' for Douglas. Or maybe you are more traditional and you would prefer to be Superman or maybe you even have a Wonder Woman. No matter, this basic costume idea works for them all.
So, have no fear, an easy, simple superhero costume idea is here!
You Can Make An Easy Superhero Costume
What You Need To Create The Perfect Superhero Costume For Your Child - Whether you want to create your own or buy the pieces.
- A MASK: Masks are definitely optional and you might decide to pass on one, depending on the age of your child. However, if your child is a little bit older, his costume might not feel complete without a mask, even if he doesn't wear it for long.
- A CAPE: The cape is NOT optional and you might as well make it a good one because your child will want to wear it all year long for many years to come.
I took a simple piece of red fabric, cut it into an appropriately sized rectangle and hemmed the edges. I suppose hemming is optional but if you want your child to use it for many years, you might be glad it is hemmed. I'm sure it will last longer that way.
- AN OUTFIT: The sky is the limit on this one and the outfit part of your child's costume can be as simple or as complicated as you wish. An appropriately colored sweatsuit is a great and multi-functional option. A t-shirt and leggings would also work. I really like some of the new pajama sets that are done in superhero theme and think they are perfect, multi-purpose and affordable, too.
'I Man' wore a favorite navy sweatsuit, which was perfect for the British Columbia climate we lived in at that time. Wearing a favorite outfit ensures that your child will be comfortable and, of course, helps stretch your costume budget dollars.
That's it.
You don't need much more.
Pretty simple, isn't it?
You Can Make Accessories For Your Superhero Costume With A Chest Plate, Wrist Guards and A Belt
'I Man' wore a chest plate 'engraved' with his initial, wrist guards and a belt. All were fairly simple to construct, using cardboard and glue and/or tape.
The chest plate was made of a heavier cardboard than the wrist guards and belt, since the chest plate needed to be fairly sturdy and the other pieces needed to be flexible.
To make the chest plate, simply take a triangle-shaped piece of cardboard, affix the letter of your choice and cover with foil wrap.
To make the wrist guards, simply take a piece of cardboard covered with tin foil, wrap it around your child's arm and affix it with shiny duct tape.
The belt was a simple strip of cardboard, covered with foil and, once again, fastened with duct tape.
