What is Thanksgiving?
I'm British and so Thanksgiving has always been a mystery to me because we don't have it over here. What is it about? Is it a religious thing like Christmas? And is it all of America that has it? Is it as big as Christmas is? Does anywhere else in the world have it? How long a holiday do you get because of it? So many questions! Thanks for answering.
I know that Thanksgiving is the one day you don't want to be a Turkey in America, that is for sure.
Thanksgiving Day is a festival celebrated primarily by American and Canadian on the fourth Thursday in November. Traditionally, it is time to give thanks to God for the harvest and express gratitude. But now, it is time for merrymaking, shopping, family reunion, feasts and family dinners..
It is religious in origin but now identified as a secular holiday.
Perhaps, thanksgiving is as important as Christmas. Apart from Europe, these two festivals are celebrated in Asia as well.

Do atheists/agnostics celebrate Thanksgiving Day?Historically, Thanksgiving had roots in religious and cultural tradition. And, if they do, who do they give thanks? The picture attached here shows the "Then & Now" before meals, which is quite true.

Why do YOU celebrate Thanksgiving?Seems like a pointless day. Have holidays just become about food and gathering? If so aren't those things we should and can be doing year round?
