Wha did mlk, jr. do to deserve a memorial on the national mall?
Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired a nation to make significant changes in how it treated an entire group of its citizens. He believed in achieving political change through civil disobedience - the power of people united for a cause and expressing themselves without violence. King's influence on our laws, behaviors, actions, and words are as important as any of the statesmen who have a memorial in Washington, D.C. Many of those statesmen held personal and political beliefs supporting slavery and contributed to the atrocious treatment of our citizens of African heritage. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his life to our country in the war against discrimination and, therefore, he is an American hero.
