Halloween Yarn Craft Patterns - Knit, Crochet, Embroidery, Macrame

Halloween yarn crafts are fun and easy to make. This Halloween yarn crafts and gifts lens will help you to find many fun and creative Halloween patterns and craft projects to knit or crochet, and there are even a few yarn craft projects that don't require needles or hooks.

If you're just learning to knit or crochet you probably look for quick and easy projects and patterns. Many of the Halloween yarn projects featured here are designed for beginners, and many are simple enough for kids who are just learning to knit or crochet.

Learning to Knit or Crochet

Don't Stab the Yarn - Learning Takes A Little Patience

I started knitting when I was a child, but I never really learned more than the basics. When I was a young mom, I taught myself how to crochet a bit and then started making "Granny" squares.

Both knitting and crochet come down to mastering a few stitches and then learning to read the patterns. To a newbie, knitting patterns and crochet patterns seem like they're written in a secret code. Take heart - if you have a good key to the instructions you can understand the instructions and appreciate the "shorthand" when a pattern gets long or takes many pages.

I first learned to knit when I was about 9 years old and over the past 50 years I've made doll clothes, children's sweaters, hats and other knit projects plus lots of easy knit holiday crafts and decorations. I taught myself to crochet when I was in my early twenties. I need to state right up front that I have mastered neither knit nor crochet. In fact, I consider myself a beginner even after all these years.

For the past 10 years my yarn and needlecraft supplies have been sitting patiently in storage waiting for me to start knitting and crocheting again. I'm starting over this fall with knitting and crocheting by making easy fiber and yarn crafts for the holidays - Halloween is the first holiday I'll be celebrating this year with easy knit and crochet decorations and gifts.

How to Knit - The Basics - Teach Me How to Knit

This excellent learn to knit video teaches you how to "cast on" (get the stitches onto the needle), knit rows back and forth, and "bind off" (finish the piece so it won't unravel).

This is definitely a scary skull mask to knit, although with a color change it might become a crocodile or alligator, or some other hideous knit monster.

Learn The Basics of Knitting

Having a set of step by step pictures to follow helped me to learn the basics of knitting.

Halloween Craft Knits

Yes, you CAN make these easy to knit Halloween crafts

Once you master the basics of knit or crochet and can follow a pattern, you'll find there are thousands of free patterns for making clothing, accessories, decorations, ornaments and functional items from yarn.

Step by Step Knitting Book

The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting
The Complete Beginner's Guide to Knitting

A self-teaching knitting reference book I can hold on my lap or keep in my knitting bag is a must for me. I sometimes go for months or years between knitting projects, so having a book with the stitches and techniques is a great way for me to remember how it's done.

Nifty Knitting Needles - Basic Set

Start with a simple set of knitting needles, then expand your collection to include other sizes or wooden and bamboo needles as you need them for new projects.

You might want to start out with these sturdy aluminum needles then invest in the more pricey wooden sets.

Fabulous Fibers to Knit and Crochet - Soft Cotton Yarns - Natural, Organic, Recycled

I have a passion for fibers - I love to macrame, knit and crochet with any type of twine, yarn, thread or string. Here's a nice selection of natural fiber cotton yarns you can buy from Amazon and get delivered right to your door.

NATURAL COTTON WARP YARN 4P 800YDS

A medium weight all cotton yarn in large quality spool for making utility items or crafts where you need lots of natural colored cotton yarn. Also great for knitting or crocheting dishcloths.

What f find for crafters - this cotton yarn comes in a huge range of related colors so you can find just the right set of coordinating colors for your Halloween knit, crochet and fiber crafts or cotton yarn for any other project.

Finger Knitting Demonstration

This simple technique makes a flower, but if you use orange yarn for the finger knitting you could create a yarn craft Halloween pumpkin. Embroider on the face and omit the stick stem.

The Art of Knitting, for Children - Learn to knit along with the kids

Knitting is so simple a kid can learn to knit. Check out the video preview of this clever and crafty how to knit video set in the YouTube snippet above.

The Art of Knitting 4 Kids (Leisure Arts #4406)

I'd buy this how to knit DVD set for myself and then let the kids and grandkids watch along. Who needs to know it's really for us?

I first learned to knit when I was 9 years old. A neighbor taught me and a friend how to do basic garter stitch and we were hooked.

Learn To Crochet - Teach Yourself to Crochet with Pictures

One reviewer said this: "I'm a beginner crocheter and this book is one of the easier books to learn crocheting from. The instructions are easy to follow. I like the pictures because they are easy to see the actual stitches and how they are supposed to look like. This book also includes patterns that I haven't seen in any other crochet book."

Teach Yourself Visually Crocheting (Teach Yourself Visually)

" ... some very nice patterns in it, it walks you through so many different stitches with pictures of all of them and at the end they have projects you can practice with. This book is easy to follow, comprehensive, and perfect for a beginner like me."

Beginning Crochet - Chain Stitch

Everything in crochet starts with a chain of stitches. Here's how to make the first chain stitch, and to create your "foundation chain" that will grow into a crocheted Halloween project.

How to Crochet - Single Crochet Stitch - After you make a crochet chain, you start adding stitches

The basic crochet stitch is a single crochet. This video will show you the simple steps in making a row of single crochet stitches in a foundation chain.

Crochet a Halloween Mask

Frog? Alien? Seasick?

This nifty green helmet-face cover pattern is a good base to design your own crochet mask.

The green yarn used suggests a frog, but you could add antennae to the top to make this into a bug, then embellish the eye area.

Or, change the color and turn this crochet project into an entirely different knitted Halloween face mask.

Crochet Hooks

A basic set of aluminum crochet hooks is good to get started. If you really love crochet, consider upgrading to bamboo or wooden hooks.

Easy Yarn Crafts for Halloween

No Knit or Crochet - Simple Halloween Fiber Crafts

Many of these fiber art Halloween crafts are easy enough for children. All you need are some yarn or string, glue, scissors, cardboard and a few craft accessories.

Yarn Crafts for All Ages and Abilities

I tried to include Halloween yarn crafts for everyone who enjoys fiber arts in this article.

I like to make simple yarn decorations with the grandkids, and as noted above I'm really a beginner knit and crochet enthusiast.

I have more skills with macrame or embroidery, but that's a whole other story or two.

My dear -- you have the most interesting pictures to complement this lens. I love crochet and knit and have purchased hats from a couple of our fellow lensmasters -- along with crochet shopping bags and amulet pendants. Such a beautiful handicraft.
