An Egyptian Party for Halloween

Updated on November 9, 2013

What does an Egyptian Goddess have to do with Halloween?

Probably the most well known image of an Ancient Egyptian Goddess is that of Bast, a woman with the head of a cat. What does she have to do with Halloween?

The ancient Egyptians celebrated the Feast Day of Bast on October 31.

It was a happy festival, with street parties and all sorts of merry making. And that's the connection with Halloween, the date, the parties, and the opportunity to dress up in some Egyptian costumes. Here are some easy Egyptian Costumes and Accessories to make or buy.

A Simple Egyptian Costume

You could dress up as mummified cat but the easiest costume for an Egyptian look is a simple tunic, quickly made from a a large piece of white fabric, and some Egyptian accessories.

Measure yourself from floor to neck and double the length. That's the length you want. Raise your arms out parallel to the floor. Measure from elbow to elbow. That's the width you want.

Simple Tunic

Fold a large, square piece of white fabric in half.

Cut a hole in the fold for your head.

Sew the sides together, leaving wide openings at the top for your arms.

Wear something suitable underneath the costume as there may be some transparency issues

Egyptian Makeup

A cheap black eyeliner pencil works wonders for an Egyptian look. Cleopatra would have loved one!

If you don't usually wear eyeliner. pick up the cheapest brand you can see from any store. Kandee shows us how to look exotically Egyptian with some eyeliner and shadow.
