I love Capiz Shells

Updated on September 8, 2016

Two reasons why I love Capiz Shells - Elegance and Diversity

Capiz shells radiate luminosity that is almost as radiant and elegant as pearls. Thanks to the creativity of craft makers, capiz shell products range from almost anything you can imagine:

home decor/accessories - frames, window pane, chandelier, candle holder, wall decor, table centerpiece, napkin holder, bowls, spoons, etc

jewelry - earrings, bracelets, necklaces

wedding favor - tiny cute basket, trinkets, etc

The picture you see here is a candle holder. This item is available in varied colors. Great item for your wedding candle holder, Christmas day gift or valentines gift. So, when you are looking for the best Christmas gift that you can give to your mother, girlfriend, sister or friend, then you might as well go through the different options here. There are great Christmas gift options also for a family, for example, the elegant chandeliers.

I have one chandelier almost identical to this item. The difference is that mine is white. During the day, it serves as a natural chime when air gently blows. As it sways, you will hear the melodic hush of shells rubbing each other. In the night, it enhances positive vibes with the added glow it gives as it reflects the light emitted by the bulbs.

What are Capiz Shells?

I gave one of my friends a set of capiz shell bowls and a centerpiece. She was so delighted but I was caught dump-folded

Some people believe that capiz shells got its name from a province in the Philippine called "Capiz".

Capiz shells are actually the outer covering of a bi-mollusk named placuna placenta. The shells looks semi-transparent, other references use the term "translucent". It displays a "pearlescent" appearance. This makes it look really elegant and attractive.

Capiz shells are naturally pearly white but coloring procedures are conducted to come up with varied colors. I love it when it is colored turquoise blue and fuchsia pink. You can get cream and dark brown but I do not like it much with those shades. Elegant shades appear in gray. It appears matte silver.

Most capiz shell carfts are lined with golden accents. It suits each product's overall appearance.

Perfect Christmas Gift for him or for her

With the really wide line of capiz shell products, one cannot go out of options. This mothers day or fathers day, or in any other occasion, celebration, holidays, capiz shell products are great options to consider.

For mothers, you may select capiz shell jewelry trinkets or capiz shell jewelry or any of the home decors.

For fathers, what about a really elegant chandelier? A table clock could be a good option too. Choose that one with an alarm.

I gave a tissue holder to one of my friends, a set of fruit bowls to my sister and a kitchen wall decor to my mom during a mothers' day.

The picture here is a kitchen wall decor.

Truly, you will never ran out of options.

Nice to know: for those who love making things

Capiz raw materials are available for sale. Depending on your need, the supplier can customize the shape and color. Most shapes that are readily available are heart, round, oval, diamond, square, triangle, rectangle, floral and stellar shapes. The natural color, as mentioned earlier is pearly white.

The size of the shell can also be customized. Some suppliers may require order in bulk before you can have the flexibility in ordering the shape, color, and size that you want. The better idea is to look for an auction that offers a bulk order with diversity in terms of shapes, sizes and colors of the items included in the order.

Capiz Products, Are these Ignored?

My brother shared to me his experience when he visited one of the towns where capiz products are produced. He said that a lot of shells are dumped and piled and abandoned. Community people are losing their enthusiasm to create artistic crafts from capiz because of the declining demand. So, the shells are there simply piled up and treated as litter.

This is so sad to note considering that it can produce really great items not only for gifting but also as home decor or accessory.
