Is there a musician in your life? Musicians are unique people who like unique things! People have frequently ask me what types of presents they should get for their musician family and friends. So many great gifts! I've gathered some gift ideas from a couple angles. The practical side of me as a music teacher, and the artistic side of me as a musician have different thoughts on the topic, so, here is a variety of both things musicians need and want.
Presents to Get the Musicians on Your List!
Practical side ~ Times are tight with finances. I love giving presents to my loved ones, yet I want to spend the money wisely. So, I ask myself, "What is something I can bless a person with that they will really like, will be beneficial to them, and yet at the same time be a good steward of the resources God has blessed me with?"
Artistic side ~ I love creativity and imagination! What can I find to make a person smile ear to ear? Get the creative juices going? Encourage their uniqueness? Tell the world they are a musician? Find something that is really different than other things they might receive?
Hhmm ... let's start searching together to find fantastic musician presents that are artistic, practical, or both. I'm sure we can find something more interesting than a pair of socks for a birthday. Although ... I wonder ...

Great Places to Purchase Sheet Music for Your Musicians
I'm always purchasing new sheet music for myself and my students to play and perform. I have a favorite local music store that I frequent, but sometimes I just don't have the time to drive, find a parking spot in the business district of the town, walk the rest of the way to the store, make my selection, and return home. You all know an hour+ of time is precious, sometimes it is just easier to sit and order what I need from home. It is also impossible for local stores to keep the selection of different books I would like in stock. There are many times I have to order it anyway. Why not order directly and have it delivered to your home? It sure is helpful to me!
There are many places online to find quality sheet music ~ here is one of my favorites. (Check the bottom of the page for many more music retailers.) They each have an excellent variety of music publishers and materials both educational and pleasure for you to select. Pick a few new music books of their favorite types of music or artists for them to enjoy playing!
Music Stands - Basic, yet necessary for all musicians!
Let's face it, there are quite a few things that are helpful to musicians. Top of the list would be great instruments, of course, but a little more in most people's price range would be: metronomes, tuners, cleaning kits, music stands, instrument stands, and repair kits.
Having a music stand at home makes it easier for musicians to practice with proper posture whether this is for young music students through professionals. They are also essential for rehearsals and performances. These musical stands are fantastic for orchestras, bands, chamber ensembles, guitarists, and vocalists.
Instrument Cleaning Supplies - Similar sets for every instrument are available.
Keeping an instrument clean not only extends the life of an instrument, but also helps to prevent repairs, produce better tone, and avoid germs and odor which could cause illness. Separate cleaning cloths and tools may be purchased, or cleaning kits are also available for many instruments. The following are a few of the top brands of instrument cleaners.
Violin & Guitar Strings are Always Helpful! - String Instrument Accessories
Instrument Stands! - Available for most instruments!
Whether used at home between practice sessions, or on the stage to hold extra instruments that are used in different parts of a concert, instrument stands of all kinds are extremely helpful! I have a Hamilton woodwind stand that holds my sax, clarinet, and flute all at once. It is wonderful in performance when I am switching between them frequently. I always have a safe place to store them until the next time I need them. I also like to use it in my studio as I change instruments between students. Instrument stands are made for brass and woodwind instruments, orchestral strings, guitars, percussion, and keyboards. Perhaps your favorite singer would like a new mike stand for performances. It's one of those gifts that will be enjoyed and appreciated!

Music Bags & Portfolios
I am constantly using musical tote bags to keep my sheet music organized and ready to go to a rehearsal or gig. In fact, I have several to keep different materials separate ~ one for church music, one for choir practice, one for instrumental music, one for wedding music, etcetera!
