National Senior Citizens Day: August 21

Updated on May 9, 2014

What do you do as a Senior Citizen? What ever does good and feels good, perhaps!

This lens will celebrate August 21 as National Senior Citizens Day as another Wacky Holiday because, in my opinion, the concept of "Senior Citizen" as a label is somewhat wacky, as well.

Is 'senior citizen' a definition or a state of mind? Do you want to be a "Senior Citizen" today or tomorrow? Let's think about that for a bit as we go through this lens. Certainly, being a senior citizen is better than the alternative (deceased!), right? So, perhaps we all aspire to be senior citizens, and August 21 is "our day" to celebrate.

I've chosen the photo here, of my daughter and myself at a gathering of the Entrada Institute that puts on weekly programs for the community of Torrey, Utah, during the tourist season on a wide variety of interesting subjects. It is not 'for seniors' but many who attend qualify for that 'designation.' It is for people of all ages who want to learn, be entertained, and fulfill a useful place in the world around them. Sounds good to me.

Will you celebrate on August 21? - How will you celebrate this 'important' holiday?? ;-)

Will you celebrate this August 21 as National Senior Citizen's Day?

Senior Olympics and Master Athletes

Leading the active life style - regardless of age

Keeping active is one of the secrets of enjoying your older years, where ever you are on the scale.

You don't need to enter competitions, but they are there for you if you wish. I've listed a couple of sites, below, for your interest.

The photo is for your inspiration - the 200 meter dash for the M80 age group... click the photo to learn more! ;-)

Senior Olympics, Master Athlete's and More - Serious ways to stay active...

You don't have to participate in the competitions to be involved. Volunteering for these and other activities is a great way to get involved, and keep both your physical and mental faculties working actively.

Or, just play with the grandikds! ;-)

That takes some energy and effort, as well! ;-)

My Lionel Train is over 50 years old, but it still works - and the grand kids enjoy seeing how it works. Is this a good way to be a senior citizen? Of course it is.
