Pool Party Birthday

Updated on September 27, 2014

A Pool Party is So Easy!

A pool party is a great and easy way to celebrate your child's birthday without a lot of work. You can have a pool party even if your child was born in the winter. My son has a January birthday, and we always struggled to find an affordable, fun place to have his party. For his 8th birthday, we found a lovely indoor pool at a convent that was rarely used. We didn't have to pay to rent out the pool, we just paid $3 for each child to attend. We rented the snack bar for an extra $25 and had several of his friends. We didn't have to plan games or activities--the kids just enjoyed the pool and each other. There are so many places to have your party--the local YMCA, outdoor pools, water parks. The possibilities are endless. Why not plan a pool party for your child this coming birthday!

Party Activities

This part is easy!

The pool party is so easy because your main activity is automatic! Let the kids swim and play in the pool! You can plan some water games if you'd like some structure. Possible ideas for games include water volleyball, blowing ping pong balls across the pool, diving for pennies, and relay races. Bring some pool toys and diving sticks for the party guests to use. We didn't plan a lot of activities, because the kids just wanted to spend their free time in the pool.

Make a Fun Cake to fit the Theme

This Under the Sea Cake is so easy!

I found easy directions to make an "Under the Sea Cake" at Family Fun. This cake was perfect for our pool party. You too can make this easy cake by following the directions found here:

Under the Sea Cake

Save some time for Cake and Presents!

Because we had a winter pool party at an indoor pool, we moved to the adjacent snack bar for cake and ice cream and presents. We spent an hour and a half in the pool, then everyone got dressed for cake and ice cream. The kids had a great time. If you want, you can also serve some simple snacks to go with your cake. If you have an outdoor party in the summer, you may have more flexibility in serving snacks and cake. Most indoor pools do not allow food in the pool room, so we had to work around this.

Pool Party Favors

Gather some fun pool related party favors to send home with your guests.

With 7 kids, I am always looking for easy, fun party ideas. I'd love to hear about your parties or your comments about mine!
