Ornaments to Make Your Christmas Tree Unique and Special

Make your Christmas tree special by decorating it with a unique theme. Chose something with special meaning for you and find ornaments that fit that theme. It can be work related or hobbies or all about your locale or vacation. In this lens, you'll find some ideas to help you decorate your themed Christmas tree.

Be creative in choosing a theme. How about an accountant's Christmas tree for the lobby of their office? Think how pretty a bride's tree would be at a Christmas wedding reception. On this page, I've collected ideas for cultural themes, travel themes and other ideas for special trees. For each theme, I've found ornaments to carry out the idea.

Happy Holidays to you!

Decorate a Tree with an African Theme

Tips and Ornaments

My neighbors lived in Africa for a number of years. They filled their home with wonderful momentos from their time abroad. At holiday time, their tree evokes memories of their years in Africa. It's wonderful and I could spend hours examining the different ornaments and hearing about their time there.

You sometimes find unique ornaments, even handmade ones, that you can't find anywhere else online.

Australian Christmas Ornaments on eBay

I lived in Australia for 3 1/2 years. It was a wonderful experience. Creating an Australian themed Christmas tree would bring back all the great memories of that time.

Ideas for Decorating a Victorian Tree

You can make Victorian ornaments like small fans from pleating ribbons. Add sparkle by hanging old chandelier crystals found at yard sales and on eBay on the tree. Instead of the old-style candles, use the modern version (electric or battery powered) for a safer tree. Collect Victorian era postcards and place them around the tree.

When shopping for these, think of the ornaments on your grandparents' tree. That may give you some ideas on the kind of old-fashioned ornaments you want to start collecting. It's nice to be able to bring back memories of your childhood in this way.

Chandelier Crystals for a Victorian Look - Find some on eBay

I use these on my Christmas tree no matter what theme I'm using this year. They add some sparkle and often can be found very inexpensively. Check the auctions here for some bargains.

I think these look great propped in the tree's branches.

Florida Christmas Ornaments on eBay - Don't Miss the Bidding Deadline

Now that I live in Florida, a tree with a Florida theme seems like fun. I saw one recently and it was really eye-catching with the flamingo ornaments and Santas in beach attire or on a surfboard. I'm not a sports fan, so it wouldn't have Florida Gators' ornaments on it. Maybe your Florida Christmas tree would though...

Texas Flag Heart by Vexillophile

I lived in South Texas along the Mexican border for 11 years. Of course, my tree sports some Texas ornaments now.

When I lived in South Texas, we were just a short drive from South Padre Island. The Friends of the Library bought real seashell ornaments for the library's Christmas tree. They were dusted with just a little sparkle and looked fantastic on the tree.

Theme: A Homemade Christmas

My family has lots of fun making new ornaments each year for the tree. One year they made clothespin reindeer (photo shows the side view). Another time we made Victorian fans using wide, lacy ribbon. It makes a good bonding activity for the whole family and a unique tree with memories for everyone.

I've done themed Christmas trees, but mostly prefer an eclectic look. Although, a tropical tree would be nice, as I do miss living in south Florida. Why, oh, why did I head north? It's cold here in Ohio and I miss the Sunshine state!

Great suggestions and ideas! I would have to put up a second Christmas tree to actually have a themed tree, but oh what fun!

Our big tree is always a real one and it is an eclectic assortment of ornaments collected on our travels and homemade ornaments, some of which were made by my grown children when they were little. I like doing smaller themed trees in different rooms. They are always so much fun.

Mostly, our trees have been themed by little creative hands. I rather enjoy seeing alla' the different ways that kids can create decorations, although I have dreamed of... jus' once... having a tree with a specific theme. *sigh*

I have had many years with theme Christmas trees. We just bought a real tree today. I haven't decided yet on going with a theme. Nice looking lens.

Unfortunately, many of my ornaments were stolen a few years back, but one of my favorite tree themes was a Victorian tree that we used antique postcards and chandelier glass as ornaments.

My theme is rather eclectic although one theme is that we pick an ornament from many of the destinations that we travel to.
