Wow. Ten years back I wrote this . Since then Akshay kumar has gone to next level!.
It's good to re read this. Akshay Kumar (rajiv bhatia) has come a long way from being action hero to super star. One of most popular stars of bollywood , akshay kumar is also high tax payer in bollywood since last two years.
Here is list of his top ten movies according to me :
1) Khiladi : The movie which went on to give akshay kumar ,the name of khiladi. This suspense thriller was akshay's early movies and it went on to be commerically successful.
Akshay kumar then had series of movies which khiladi name attached to it. Khidladi no 1, Mr & Mrs Khiladi , International Khiladi , Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi to name few.
2) Dhadkan : Akshay kumar as sidha sadha character is something which none can relate to but he defied his image and became exactly what no body expected him to be. A simple , truth loving , harmless character who gets married to shilpa shetty who is in love with sunil shetty. What follows is story of how akshay wins over shilpa and how sunil comes back in their life to get shilpa back . This movie made sunil's 'mein tumhe bul jaun yeh ho nahi sakta , tum mujhe bhul jaao yeh mein hone nahi dunga' a very famous dialogue.
3) Sangarsh : This movie was not outright commercial success but one of finest roles that akshay kumar has played. He plays an gangster who is highly knowledgable and is known as professor because of his intellect and knowledge. Preity zinta who is an cbi trainee seeks his help against a fanatic who kidnaps a child for human sacrifice.
The movie was one of first movies in which akshay kumar had serious role and he delivered his best in the movie.
4) Ajnabee : This movie made him win his first film fare award in negative role which he plays to perfection. Akshay plays role of husband of a rich lady who is in love with bipasha basu even before he gets married. He is looking for couple whom he can use for his plans to murder his wife (rich lady). Bobby deol-Kareena kapoor are couple he is looking for . First he proposes them for wife swapping which bobby refuses . Then he comes up with another plan to frame bobby and this time he becomes successful in it.
This movie saw akshay kumar evolve as actor and he plays villian convincingly.
5) Aitraaz :
Again playing a loyal husband , akshay kumar is charged by his ex girl friend of raping her. This false rape accusation leads akshay to court where his wife fight his case and in end wins the case. This movie got priyanka chopra her filmfare award in negative role.
6) Khakhee :
Akshay kumar plays a corrupted police officer in this movie. He is a flirt and Womanizer who is made part of team under amitabh bachchan. The team is sent to dangerous operation . Akshay kumar transforms from being corrupted officer to police officer who died for his duty. This movie was critically aclaimed and role of akshay kumar was entertaining and worked both with people and critics.
7) Aan-The man at work :
This is action movie based on police life. A demoralised , corrupted police team gets fresh zeal to eradicate crime from the city after akshay kumar takes charge of the team. Akshay kumar plays role of strict police officer who believes in rule books and human rights. This movie was critically acclaimed and akshay's role was appreciated.
8) Waqt: The Race Against Time :
A story of father and son , this movie was commerical hit. The movie is on amitabh bachchan and his son akshay kumar. Big B has a toy factory and loves his family. Akshay is still to grow up man who runs away with his love priyanka chopra. Now priyanka gets pregnant while akshay still is a irresponsible man. Big B is also suffering from fatal disease , the truth which he hides from his son. In his quest of making akshay realize his responsibility , he throws him out of his house. Akshay eventually understand his responsibility to makes his quest to become bread winner. The movie had typical bollywood climax but it was sincere effort from akshay kumar. Big b and boman as usual were at their best . Shefali shah is good at any role she does and priyanaka too fits the role easily.
9) Namastey London :
This movie was huge success and it brought together the jodi which went on to give hit after hit. Katrina kaif and akshay are two most soughted after as on screen couple and namastey london was their first hit together. Movie revolves around an NRI girl (katrina) who is forced to get married to akshay kumar . She takes him to london along with her where she wants to get married to her love. Akshay kumar tried to convince her but when he fails in doing so , decides to let her get married to her love. The movie ends like most bollywood movies do. Finally katrina doesnot marry with brit but settles for akshay kumar
10) Hera Pheri :
This is a cult movie. This movie saw akshay kumar rise to become one of biggest stars of bollywood . This movie followed series of comedy movies for akshay kumar. Playing an unemployed person , akshay was at his best in this movie. This is very hilarious movie and rightly deserves a cult status.
