That Suspicious Lockerbie Release

Petroleum politics clouds every global move, from the two (or three) American invasions in the Middle East to Scotland’s release of the Lockerbie bomber. The decision by Kenny MacAskill, the Scottish Justice Secretary, to free Abdul Dase Ali al-Megrari on compassionate grounds is coloured by the alleged links of the British Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, to the Libyan leadership.

The released al-Megrahi who has terminal prostate cancer with a prognosis of 3 months to live, was alleged told by Gaddafi’s son, Saif Gaddafi “You were on the table in all commercial, oil, and gas agreements that we supervised in that period.”

Could it be that while the FBI and the American public continue their hue and cry against the release, the really powerful elite who conspiracists insist rule the world behind the scenes, have already wrapped up the deal, and the whole compassionate thing is just a good spin? Time will tell.

Legal experts, diplomats, and politicians have been convinced for some time now that al-Megrahi, a former Libyan intelligence officer, is innocent. Some persons believe that the cancer diagnosis is a blessing in disguise because his appeal had a good chance of succeeding. So the compassionate loophole gave Scotland an opportunity to git rid of a prisoner with an unsafe conviction.

Richard Kerbaj of The Times quotes Abdurrhman Swessi, Colonel Gaddafi’s official envoy to Scotland in an August 24, 2009 piece referring to the former prisoner as a scapegoat.

The unclear and present strategy of the West appears to be to compete with the Russian bear for the primacy of place in Libyan matters. The Cold War game is still on. Anything to the contrary is simply posturing and playing to the cameras.
