How To Take Care of Your Pets

Do you have a pet? Pets can instill a sense of well-being, and studies have shown that pet owners have lower blood pressure, are less likely to be depressed and have higher self-esteem than people who don't care for companion animals.

Celebrate what your pet brings you by learning more about being a Responsible Pet Owner and then spend time playing with and appreciating your companion!

This is a photo of my little dog taken by patinkc. All pet photos on this page are photos of my pets.

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day April 30

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is observed each year on April 30. This day was created as a way to raise awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for (and needing) adoption from the shelters.

Cesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems
Cesar Millan—star of National Geographic Channel’s hit show Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan—reveals what dogs truly need to live a happy and fulfilled life. Cesar’s formula for a contented and balanced dog seems impossibly simple: exercise, discipline, and affection, in that order. This book will give you a deeper appreciation of how your dog sees the world. I have been successful using Cesar's methods with several dogs.

Simple Tips To Protect Your Pets

National Pet Theft Awareness Day, February 14.

This important day is intended to increase public awareness of pet theft as well as everyday responsible pet care. Nearly two million companion animals are stolen each year. It is a tragedy that any pet owner should suffer the heartbreak of a stolen pet. There are simple steps pet owners can take to ensure the safety of their pets:

Keep your pets indoors when you are not home.

Ensure proper identification of your pet with a collar and I.D. tag and identification microchip. Keep pet licenses current and keep a current photo of pets on hand.

Keep your dogs on leashes when outside and keep your cats indoors.

Never leave an animal unattended in a vehicle.

Ensure that gates are padlocked and that your fences are high enough and secure.

If a pet is missing call the Humane Society. If you believe your pet has been stolen, do not delay in filing a theft report by calling 911. Pet thefts often occur in groups within the same neighborhoods, and prompt reporting will increase your odds of recovering your dog and preventing additional thefts.

Life is as dear to a mute creature as it is to man.
