Finding Your Dreams in the Real World

Updated on February 9, 2024

If you will be given a chance to see your dreams come true, would you take it?

But what if there is one condition: What if achieving those dreams required removing reality from my life?

Once, there existed a quaint, sleepy village where life unfolded in the simplest of ways. The villagers sustained themselves solely on fruits and vegetables, drawing their water from the nearby river. Like many others living in modest circumstances, they harbored desires for comforts and luxuries—an aspiration for plush beds, picturesque homes with bountiful gardens, sumptuous feasts, and fine wines, among other indulgences.

One fateful day, an elderly resident stumbled upon a well not far from the village. In the days that followed, it became apparent that this well possessed not only the ability to quench their thirst but also harbored magical properties. By imbibing its waters and drifting into slumber, the villagers found that their deepest desires were fulfilled as they dreamt. The magic only took effect during their sleep, manifesting the villagers' most coveted wishes in a luxurious and extravagant manner—complete with adorned tiaras, the softest beds imaginable, and endless revelry.

Yet, the harsh reality awaited them upon awakening. In a bid to escape their mundane existence, the villagers resorted to repeatedly drinking from the well and succumbing to sleep. However, as time slipped away, they gradually weakened due to lack of activity and sustenance. Entrapped in an endless cycle of slumber, they grew detached from reality, consumed by their insatiable desire to evade it.

One by one, the people in this village died. The traces of their voices were all now covered by shrubs and tall trees. And the well was hidden again for the good of mankind.

Ultimately, the village fell silent, its once lively voices silenced by the encroaching foliage. The well, hidden once more, became a relic of the past—a cautionary tale of the dangers of forsaking reality for the allure of illusion.

We are living in reality. What you see around you is real. Escaping is not the solution to make all our dreams come true.

It's a matter of hard work and dedication to achieve our goals in life. If we sleep and let opportunities pass by, we would wake up one day and see that it’s already too late. What I've learned from the story is even though our life is not the way we wanted it to be; we have all the powers to change it.

We will not rely to others to be successful. This is a tough world we are living in and people who saw others going fast to the top will make a way to push them down. But deep within us is the hope and determination that they could not take.

Take it as a weapon and change your life to the way you wanted it to be. Wake up and find your dreams!
