Updated on November 16, 2013

Your Thoughts

You are tired from the busy day and you head to bed. You close your eyes and then, wait, what's that you hear? Some nights your thoughts are agonizing as they crowd your mind and keep you from staying asleep. Ah, allusive sleep!

Here are some of the thoughts you may have... Yes, the reflections have been, well, doused with a sprinkle of silly and a dash of harhar. The mixture creates a list of 10 thoughts that will keep you up in the middle of the night.

10 Thoughts That Will Keep You Up At Night

1. I know that spider is in the room, I know it. When I saw it earlier it was on the ceiling. It couldn't be under the sheets. Could it?

2. Well, if I lost five pounds between today and last Tuesday, then I should be able to fit into that outfit for the party tomorrow. Well that IS three days of dieting...

3. Yes! I have my next idea for an article. Wow, writer's block be gone! Now where did that pen go? (Fumbles around in dark and knocks over lamp)

No More Writer's Block. No Sleep Either.

Now where did I put that pen?!

4. It was only a nightmare. It was only a nightmare. If I say that enough times then it will seem less real... (May relate to #1 above)

5. I did turn off the light in the kitchen, didn't I? Yes. I did. Wait, did I turn off the light in the laundry room too?

6. What will I put as #6 on this list? (May relate to #3 above)

Kept Awake With Questions during the Night

7. How on earth can you sleep with all of that snoring you are doing? (Thought as look over at snoring partner in bed)

8. What if my alarm clock doesn't go off in the morning?

9. Wait - Did I set the alarm clock?

10. How DO they get the caramel into the Caramilk bar?

Solve the Caramilk Mystery

Oh Caramilk, please tell me how the caramel gets into the bar... Then I can sleep!

      Hi ChristyWrites

Yes, writers block for sure. I have found myself trying to think hard what should be the next topic only to be awake. Vote up and shared.

Hehe 2patricias it's funny what thoughts enter our minds before we nod off to sleep. Thanks for the great comment and take pride in your knitting project! :)

Last night I kept thinking about what colour buttons I would sew onto the cardigan that I am currently knitting. And what colour thread.

Now that it is morning and I am fully awake I am asking myself "will anybody but me notice?"

      Thanks for a funny hub.

Hi Christy... you must have been reading my mind or something. The crazy part of it is there are those nights when I crash and burn at 11 and wide awake again by 1. These are the days when I just get up, make my coffee and get at it. I guess they are the times that become the most productive and I have learned to listen to the calling... silly me.

      Hugs from Alberta

What a humorous Hub! I just started a new job, and the thoughts of what I did or didn't do @ work haunt me (along with all the other weird stuff that crowds my consciousness during the night!) Wish I could just flip a switch and turn it off! :) Voted up, funny and interesting.

      @Rebecca, Hehe darn them!

@MoonLake - awesome! The thought about cake is one that, well, I can identify with! Thanks for leaving such a neat comment.

@Levertis, the glue gun could affect me if I owned one :) Hehe very good list you have there!

@Peggy, I have the same thing happen just before trips. You are not alone! Thanks hon for stopping by to read and ... oh yes "what thoughts?!" hehe

What a unique hub, ChrityWrites! Here are my "Top Ten."

      1) Did I do the last litter scoop?

      2) Did I lock the front door?

      3) I hope someone saved that little kitten online tonight

      4) I wonder how Al is in Kansas?

      5) Why is my writing so lame, lately?

      6) numbers....I wake up and numbers are going through my mind...as in a phone # or sequence that I am sure must mean something.

      7) wake up - wide awake and on alert - say a prayer for someone special who is having a hard time...surround them with white light

      8) why did I eat that damn bread so late at night? I know I'm going to hate myself in the morning.

      9) The fox is in the yard again..must remember to keep the cats inside.

10 Why am I so lonely?

There you have it....great and unique hub, ChristyWrites...good for you!!

I think too much, particularly at night before I go to sleep. I'll just think about something that happened earlier that day or something that is going to happen in the near future and dwell on it. I'm a worry wort, so I definitely need to learn to chill out a bit.

Anyhow, nice hub- it was fun to read!

      WHEN I WAS A KID:

When will they drop the bomb

What will I do if Mom and Dad die

Do I have to go to school tomorrow how can I get out of another spelling test

Does Nancy still want to be my friend

Will Mom know I broke that vase

      MY THOUGHTS NOW:

      Did the doors get locked

Are the kids ok this thought goes on and on.

What Hub can I do next

      I hear something outside

I need to do that ironing

Did I put that soup away I was cooling

Do I have to go to town tomorrow how can I get out of it

Are my nephews ok in the war

      Winters not far off

I wonder if there's still some cake

Sorry this is long. Voted Up

Did I unplug the glue gun? Did I lock the door? Was that noise an intruder? I know I heard something move in my closet. What will I wear tomorrow? Should I get up and write this down, or can I trust my memory to retain it? These and other thoughts often wake me up in the middle of the night.

      Great hub!

Great job Christy. I too get ideas for Hubs at the oddest times including in the middle of the night. Trinity's reply above might keep me awake tonight? Very funny, well done.

Just for fun I voted on "What thoughts?" Haha! Often if I wake up in the middle of the night and think of something that would be great for a hub topic, I think to myself..."Oh, I'll remember that!" Morning comes and if not jotted down...normally it is gone. Zapped from my mind...ie...what thoughts?

If I am going on a trip, rarely do I get a good night's sleep the night prior. Just too excited, I guess.

      Voted funny and sharing.

@Nell, oh yes I identify with the glasses thought too! Thanks for your great comment and putting a smile on my face :)

@Rebecca, Aha you are thinking from the second you wake up! No wonder you write such awesome hubs :)

@Sunshine, Hehe I am getting to know you well you lasagna-cooking gal!

@TT, oh those alien thoughts will get you every time!!

Hi Christy, Funny writing. I should fumble for the pen at night, but I don't. I think I'll remember that great idea or title or opening sentences - but I don't. This was a lot of fun to read first thing in the morning. Well done.

lol this is so true. I don't know how many times I've gone to bed and couldn't fall asleep because of the spider I saw earlier. I just imagine it hanging from the ceiling and slowly moving down until it lands on my face and starts crawling down my body. ICK!!! Oh great now I won't sleep tonight... Oh well, I'm sure you have plenty more hubs for me to read! :D Voted up, funny, awesome and shared.

Oh yes do I! lol! I wake up about ten times a night, usually with the thoughts such as, yes that spider as you said above, and do I have to go to work tomorrow? Is it the weekend? and of course the old one, what did I do with my glasses? seriously, I put my reading glasses down and always forget where I put them! I only need them when wearing my contacts, but they have a life of their own! lol! really funny hub!

Loved this, and it's SOOOO true! I wake up to thoughts of:

"Did I lock the car?" so I have to run out and check.

"Did I turn off the oven?" run to the oven, yep it's on!

"I wonder if I have any comments on hubpages..."

"If string theory is relevant, then where do black holes fit into that equation...."

"How do aliens allow for the time differences between our planet and theirs?"

      Loved this...voted up and more!!!

Hi Christy, I enjoyed this hub. Funny and interesting. As hubbers I think most of us can relate to these points. As I'm an early riser, I do not need an alarm to wake me up but sometimes I do get up thinking is about time.

Also, I tend to look around for that elusive pen even during the day.

Voted this hub up, funny and interesting. Shared so more can feel good reading it.

@Anamika, Oh dear it's interesting when you start to talk in your sleep. I see you are not scared of spiders so I will let you know if I see any so you can handle the situation :) Thanks for the vote and comment too.

@Kelley, glad to hear you are sleeping well!

@Barbergirl, LOL I just realized I had read your name earlier as 'barbiegirl' oops Sorry :) If you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about Caramilk bars then you can blame me and my hub hehe.

None of those thoughts (except spiders) can keep me awake in the night. I do pest control at my home and have not seen Spiders and lizards for years now. So I am sure that they would not spoil my night too. But I have woke up at the middle of the night thinking of 'targets' at work. My Guy tells me that I used to even talk of targets while sleeping. Thank God I quit my high Profile Bank job 3 years ago to stay at home and 'targets' do not scare me any more. Fun Hub, voted up!

This is funny. Usually I don't wake up in the middle of the night, usually I find the thoughts start invading my space the second my head hits the pillow. Or, my other problem... I think I have to pee.... no, I really don't... but if I don't use the bathroom now I will wake up in the middle of the night and have to use the bathroom. Oh darn, now I really have to pee! LOL

Well, luckily I came across this thought provoking hub in the afternoon. Hopefully it won't ruin my sleep later on tonight! Thanks for the laugh!

Hi Christy, fortunately I fall asleep quickly and easily and stay asleep until I awake in the morning. The only thing that wakes me up are my children and very rarely, a thunderstorm with thunder that is loud enough, will wake me.

I liked number six in your list.
