Updated on February 17, 2012

There is character still in the world and those of you whom have read the book by Stephen covey now understand that. Those of you that have not read the book, it is something I highly recommend that you do. There are self help books, and then there are books like Steven Coveys,”7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.

There are not many books that will stand the test of time, but this one will. The book itself is a must read it has 7, habits, and is divided into several sections.

The first section is divided into the sub sections

1. Be Proactive – Setup everything first and make sure your goals are clear

2. Begin with an End in Mind – Make sure you prioritize the concepts, so your goal will be achieved

3. First Thing First – This is help on dealing with other, handling work life balance, and an appreciation of your own time.

The next section is how to actually work with all types of personalities.

1. Think Win-Win – Listening is always a win-win situation

2. Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood – This chapter is about the value of understanding and compromise

3. Synergize – You will be the ultimate team member on your team. This chapter shows you how to become that in less time.

The last section of this book entitled “Sharpening the Saw” – there is never a down time to not be effective and this process can wear on a person. So, this chapter gives incredible insights on how never to become tired of being effective.

All of these habits combined present you with a person that is highly effective in any given situation. These are habits that need to be honed over time and are not instant, but with diligence and practice, you will overcome them.

This is not just another self help book this is a book of style and grace made so anybody from any walk of life can use it and learn it. To properly develop your character into one of success is a time honored approach and will give you the most effective ways to building and maintaining your character of success. So, if you have not read about these secrets then order it now you will be glad that you did.

I have been through the class taught on the basis of Covey's book. These are 7 great habits to implement and the principles taught really do make for more a more effective and organized life.

This is one of the few self-help books I own; It's stuff I try to do, but am more haphazard in their execution.

    Good hub.

I'm not usually one for self-help books, but the subject of this one is one that interests me.

Good stuff. I haven't read much in terms of self help books but the chapters seem to cover a lot of good topics.

I might well give it a go. Thanks for the introduction.
