A 22nd Century History Lesson on the late 20th Century
Good Morning Class
This writing is a creative look at the North Woods Document through the eyes of a 10th grade history class in the year 2112. Although the setting is fictional, all references to Operation North Woods are factual and copied verbatim into the class reading. Operation North Woods is a formerly top-secret document signed in March of 1962 by the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States of America. Although a second American revolution is mentioned in this writing, this is merely a fictional possible future outcome. This writing is in no way encouraging a violent overtaking of the current American government.
It was a typical Monday morning in Mrs. Anderson’s 10th grade History class. As lethargic teenagers shuffled into her class carrying their learning tablets she recollected how she had to carry a heavy cumbersome book bag to and from school every day. She also recalled how different things were growing up in the late 21st century. As she pondered over the lecture she had prepared that day she was thankful that she could finally teach the truth, good or bad, she could finally state the facts as they occurred with no interference from government or special interest. She thought about how today's lesson would have been illegal to teach the 10th graders of the mid- 21st Century and what punishments would await her if she told the horrifying truth. Though times had long since changed Mrs. Anderson was still slightly nervous about teaching the facts freely, in the back of her mind were the echoes of the masses who suffered but eventually conquered tyranny.
“Please take your seats class!” Yells Mrs. Anderson. “I have a very important lecture to go over today and we only have an hour to cover this portion of U.S. History!”
“Oh crap, I hate history. It’s soooo boring!” exclaims a boy in the back.
Mrs. Anderson gasps, “ Well Brian, I don’t think this portion of American History will be quite so boring to you, please open up your learning tablets to 1960’s U.S. History, go to the North Woods file and open file.”
Mrs. Anderson takes a deep breath and starts her lecture.
“ Brian, suppose I were to tell you that at one time the U.S. government planned to kill its own citizens to create a reason to go to war?” said Mrs. Anderson.
“You mean like the sinking of the Lusitania?”
“Exactly! Can anyone tell me what a false-flag operation is?
The students look toward the door as an elderly man enters. “It’s when a country creates an event to justify hostile aggression toward another country.” Exclaimed the Principal.
As the old Principal Dr. Johnson entered the classroom attentiveness swarmed over the faces of the students. Dr. Johnson was 90 years old and had served in the war of 2032 at just 20 years of age. He wasn’t the type to hovel up in his office and shy away from interaction. On the contrary, it was very common to see him eating lunch with his students or surprising them in the classroom like he did today. The students had a great reverence for him, even Brian, who was known as a trouble maker sat up in his seat. Brian had been to Dr. Johnson’s office many times for talking back and fighting with other students. Dr. Johnson had shared with him that he too was a troubled teenager and wasn’t until he joined the Marines that he realized all that he took for granted. Brian’s many visits had endowed him with much more knowledge of Dr. Johnson than others had received. His favorite story is the one where Dr. Johnson talks about the 2nd American Revolution. He used to tell Brian, “Our Nation is so great that it needed two Revolutions.” He went on to explain how his unit was put in charge of interrogating a group of “Insurgents” about a weapons cache, or as he put it now, a group of Citizens practicing their 2nd Amendment and trying to defend their children. His 1st Lt. drew his sidearm and shot an unarmed woman in the face, spraying blood onto her daughter. As he turned the gun toward the father the young Corporal Johnson killed the Lt. and he and his platoon were one of the first military units to defect and join the revolutionaries. Brian will never forget the story and what Dr. Johnson told him afterward.
“There will come a time, when you must make a decision that goes against all your education and training, not because it’s popular, but because it’s the right thing to do.”
“Well class, it looks like we have a very welcomed visitor!” “Dr. Johnson you are just in time to learn about Operation North Woods with us!” Mrs. Anderson says excitedly.
Dr. Johnson pushes his glasses with his index finger. “Oh boy, Operation North Woods is a prime example of why we need to be very skeptical of our governments eagerness to wage war, too often it turns out that things are not what they seem to be on the surface, well I am going to go get some chow, pay attention to this lecture kids it is eye opening to say the least.”
Dr. Johnson then made his way through the door down the hall; the students could hear him whistling the Marine Corps Hymn of which he had a particular way of whistling every line except for…”First to fight for right and freedom, and to keep our honor clean, we are proud to claim the title of United States Marine!” This line he belted out loudly and was of obvious importance to the Dr.
Once Dr. Johnson had made his way out of sight and sound Mrs. Anderson smiled . “Alright, now that everyone has perked up let me summarize the North Woods document. This was a top secret document that was signed on March 3rd 1962 as a Memorandum to the Secretary of Defense, Subject titled: Justifications for U.S. Military Intervention in Cuba. Signed by L.L. Lemnitzer, Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff. The purpose of Operation North Woods was to fabricate terrorist attacks by Cubans within the U.S. through bomb attacks on U.S. naval ships, attack on military bases, shooting down of airliners and rumors that were to create justification for war with Cuba.”
“Brian can you read Section 8?" Asks Mrs. Anderson.
“Yes Mrs. Anderson. Hahmm…. Section 8. It is possible to create an incident that will demonstrate convincingly that a Cuban aircraft has attacked and shot down a chartered civil airliner enroute from the United States to Jamaica, Guatemala, Panama or Venezuela. The destination would be chosen only to cause the flight plan route to cross Cuba. The passengers could be a group of college students off on a holiday or any grouping of persons with a common interest to support chartering a non-scheduled flight.
“Wow, sounds like they wanted to make-up the shooting down of a civilian U.S. airliner, not cool Mrs. Anderson!”
“It gets far worse Brian, who would like to read paragraph A.?” “Justine, please go ahead.”
“Ok…Ummm. Paragraph A. An aircraft from Englin, Air Force Base would be painted and numbered as an exact duplicate for a civil registered aircraft belonging to a CIA proprietary organization in the Miami area. At a designated time the duplicate would be substituted for the actual civil aircraft and would be loaded with the selected passengers, all boarded under carefully prepared aliases. The actual registered aircraft would be converted to a drone….the end.”
The class starts laughing.
“As much as I would love for it to have ended Justine, it goes on and gets even scarier, as you notice in paragraph A. the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has signed a document supporting that the U.S. government create a plan to deceive the American people into thinking that a U.S. airliner was attacked by Cuban forces. They go as far as to create a duplicate airliner and convert an airliner into a drone. Mark, can you please read paragraph B.?”
“Ya… ok. But can I ask a question first?”
“Is this real?”
The class chuckled.
Mrs. Anderson gets a somber look on her face and approaches the class from behind her desk. As she folded her hands in front of her she gazed up toward the class. “Class, although you may laugh at Mark’s question it is important we recognize that this document was released in 1997 during the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board. This resulted in a total of 1,521 pages of once-secret military records covering 1962 to 1964 to become declassified by the review board. These pages were and are very real; Operation North Woods was very real. Unfortunately, during the late 20th century it is estimated that %99.9 of American citizens were completely unaware the documents existed!”
“What! What could be more important to the news than this!!!” yelled Brian angrily.
“Well Brian, Do you know what the biggest news story of 1997 was? It was the death of Princess Diana.”
“Who the hell is that?” exclaimed Brian.
“Watch your mouth Brian, and she was the princess of England at the time, and well known for her charming demeanor, grace and giving nature.”
“Well ok, I get that she was cool and everything, but documents came out proving the the U.S. government was planning to make up a plane crash to start a war! That’s such bullshit!” yelled Brian.
As Brian was ending his sentence Mrs. Anderson pushed a button on her tablet which brought up Dr. Johnson on the presentation board.
“Yes Mrs. Anderson.” Said Dr. Johnson.
“Sorry to disturb you Dr. Johnson but could I send Brian to your office please, he just can’t seem to keep his mouth in check.”
“Ok, send him on over, I am eating my lunch in my office again anyway.”
As Brian moped out of the class room Mrs. Anderson’s mouth curled up on the side. It was not a smirk, but more of a consoling expression that a parent has when they want their kid to realize their better than they act. Mrs. Anderson admired Brian’s energy and intelligence. Brian had a history that was not as fortunate as most kids. She understood that, but knew he needed tough love, and luckily so did Dr. Johnson.
“Ok class, who would like to read Paragraph B.?”
“I will Mrs. Anderson!” exclaimed Todd.
“Ok Todd, go ahead.”
“Ok, ok where were we….paragraph b. Take off times of the drone aircraft and the actual aircraft will be scheduled to allow a rendezvous south of Florida. From the rendezvous point the passenger-carrying aircraft will descend to minimum altitude and go directly into an auxiliary field at Englin, Air Force Base where arrangements will have been made to evacuate the passengers and return the aircraft to its original status. The drone aircraft meanwhile will continue to fly the filed flight plan. When over Cuba the drone will begin transmitting on the international distress frequency a “MAY DAY” message stating he is under attack by a Cuban MIG aircraft. The transmission will be interrupted by destruction of the aircraft which will be triggered by radio signal. This will allow ICAO radio stations in the Western hemisphere to tell the U.S. what has happened to the aircraft instead of the U.S. trying to “sell” the incident.”
As Todd was reading arms were flying up all over Mrs. Anderson’s classroom. Student’s ooh’ing and awe’ing. Finally Todd was finished and Mrs. Anderson pointed to a student to hear her question.
“Mrs. Anderson! Why didn’t anybody complain about this! Why didn’t the people do something?”
“Good question Samantha, when good people stand idly by while their government becomes increasingly tyrannical they are as guilty as those who sponsor tyranny. You see, it doesn’t happen suddenly; first it starts with the dumbing down of a culture. Most people of that time had no idea, and honestly didn’t care as long as they got their Starbucks coffee every morning, and could work a 40 hour job in peace and have an occasional vacation. You see, to the slave freedom has a taste sweeter than one born into freedom could ever know.
“They had Starbucks back then?” yelled Todd.
“Yes Todd, as a matter of fact coffee houses have traditionally been the meeting place of free-thinkers, lovers of philosophy and diversity. During the 1st American Revolution coffee houses were the planning grounds, just as they were during the 2nd revolution.”
“Wow, coffee is powerful!” Laughed Samantha.
“No Samantha, ideas are powerful. No weapon ever created by man can kill an idea, they don’t run on batteries, they can’t decay, get sick or die, they spread like a virus. Once the idea of freedom, the idea that all men are created equal and all have the right to the pursuit of happiness spread, nothing could stop it. However from time to time the tree of liberty has to be watered by the blood of tyrants and patriots. Luckily for us, we have a reminder, Dr. Johnson fought for your liberty during and after the revolution and he keeps fighting. He fights now not with a rifle but with knowledge, he knows that only through education can another watering of the liberty tree be avoided.”
Brian knocks on Dr. Johnson’s office.
“Come in!” Dr. Johnson announces.
Brian enters slumped over and obviously disappointed.
“What’s the matter Brian? What brings you here to visit me again? This is the second time this week, you must enjoy my company!” Dr. Johnson said jokingly.
Walking into Dr. Johnson’s office was always a humbling experience, not just to Brian but to anyone. The walls were covered with photos of Dr. Johnson with heads of State, medals, awards, diplomas from prestigious Universities.
“No, well actually ya I do, but not under these circumstances… I got mad and raised my voice and cussed. I was sooo mad.”
“What made you mad Brian?”
“Because I know the rest of the story of North Woods, they succeeded; they flew two planes into two of the biggest buildings in America and killed thousands.” Said Brian.
“ Well Brian, if you hadn’t blown up and stayed for the rest of the class you would have found out that your confusing the military industrial conspiracy of 9-11 for Operation Northwoods, operation North Woods was never carried out, John F. Kennedy never signed off on it.”
“Yes sirry, Operation North Woods occurred in 1962, although the plan sounds similar, the attack during 9-11 happened in 2001.”
“Wait, so what happened when people noticed the similarity in the North Woods plan to what happened on 9-11-01?”
“Nothing happened Brian, nobody noticed.” Said Dr. Johnson.
“How could nobody notice? It’s the same plan; it was out there for everyone to read just three years earlier! Were they just stupid!?”
“Stupid is a bit harsh, they were more ignorant Brian, the average adult back then had the education of a modern 6th grader. In addition, they weren’t educated to be that smart, they were educated to memorize a false history and to implement a future agenda that would ultimately result in a complete absence of liberty. In addition, they were spoon fed messages over their idiot boxes, which told them how to think and what values were important. They worshipped material items and even famous people who were more ignorant than they were. They struggled against an ever failing economy that was run by foreign bankers with rising inflation, shoot they were trying to pay rent, and have enough for food!”
“So, if they were more educated they would have known better, they would have done something.”
“Maybe and maybe not. Knowledge is part of it, but action is what determines the outcome of history.”
“So what happened, why didn’t they do it in 1962?”
“President Kennedy didn’t sign off on it.”
“Wasn’t he assassinated?”
“Yes, indeed he was in 1963 in Dallas, Texas."
2nd period bell starts ringing.
“Sounds like you need to get to your next class…what is it?”
“My favorite…. Marksmanship!”
