A Big Storm Heading Our Way

Updated on February 9, 2017

The Calm Before The Snow

I walked around the street almost bare

In the yard were small traces of winter

The ground glazed white with a combination snow and ice

Spring coming a little bit closer

To early to tell

The weather person reports winter is not over yet

They have been wrong before

They can be wrong again

Years ago February 8th

Was a day to remember

The blizzard of 78

Where snow blanketed the whole northeast

I was thirteen years old and one city over

There was a cute fourteen year old girl

Twenty years later we would meet

Growing up in the world we knew

Experencing the same feelings I felt

Only from a woman's view

Her parents taught her the difference between right and wrong

If she called from the police station

She is spending the night

If she called from the hospital

She better be hurt

Because she did something stupid to get there

Either way her parents would be furious

My parents didn't put up with talking back

If you got in trouble with a teacher or another adult

They took sides with that adult

You had better have respect for anyone older than you

Through years of experience

They were right most of the time

We were brought up to have good manners

No elbows on the table

If there was food in your plate

You didn't leave your seat until it was gone

You asked to be excused when you left the table

Helping with the dishes and the chores were a given

Taking out the metal barrels before the trash man came

We had to put our garbage in a pail by the side of the house

When the garbage man came and it really smelled awful

It really stunk in the hot summer days

The ice cream man came around supper time

I have to go to shovel the snow

Beautiful white coming down real steady

Visibility is bad

Ten to twelve inches expected

If you don't have to go out

Don't

Spin outs and accidents happen

Luckily my wife and I are both off from work

A lovely day to enjoy our home

Gypsy Rose Lee It to s amazing how the weather affects us all in so many different ways. I can see how your winters can be awfully tough. In the news I am sad watching how around the world there are so many people struggling with terrible weather. From an earthquake in the Phillipines to Mud slides and forest fires in different parts of California. Tornadoes in other places that strike so violently and do so much destruction. I have no right to complain about lots and lots of white crystal powdery snow. Thank you for sharing. Please keep me posted on any weather changes. May you stay safe and keep warm. A good time to write a novel or at least a sweet simple hub about the season so many people wish they could just miss.

Minnetonka Twin My wife and I drive one hundred and fifty miles a day. We have to be safe. We leave hours early just to make work on time. When conditions are really bad and visibility poor we make the smart decision to stay home. Now we wait for the storm to hit. Luckily we can use our vacation time and turn a couple days off from work into a mini vacation. You can't put a price on safety. In the past we have drove in the worst conditions and have seen cars off the road and bad accidents. We have learned a very important lesson. It's not worth it. I am happy you getting a mild winter. I do love the snow when I don't have to go anywhere. I'm not a skier so I don't miss the lovely sport. Thank you for reading and sharing. The sun quietly shines a tiny amount of light on the angry, grey and pale sky.

Right now we are still in the deep freeze in a land of snow and ice. They keep threatening us with a snow storm but in our case if a storm comes it might just not stop snowing until the first day of spring. Hope you're having a relaxing Sunday and staying safe and warm.

Yes, Minnesota gets a lot of snow but this winter hasn't seen as much as usual. The snow enthusiast's are a bit sad that most of the snow has melted. We usually get a lot of snow in March and it melts right away. Hope your having a good weekend.

I am the same way about enjoying nature and using even shoveling to think, relax and talk to friends and family that have gone before me. Glad you have good neighbor's that will help you out if you need it. It makes such a difference. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I plan to stay close to home and do lots of cooking.

      Love and Peace

Minnetonka Twin I went out four times to shovel. Good exercise and I love the fresh air. I have wonderful neighbors who offered to help. I said I have it now but maybe next storm I might need you. Thank you very much. I really do like shoveling. It gives me time to talk out loud and clear my head. I found real nice peace and tranquility.. I talk out loud to all my family and friends who have passed. I feel one with nature and closer to God. Thank you for reading and sharing. What a nice surprise on this snowy afternoon.
