A Christmas Haiku: I Want to be the First to See Baby Jesus
Come and Behold Him!
Speckles of stars shine
tufts of grass peeking through pebbles and rocks
A still winter night.
Sheep like cotton balls
whimsical creatures enjoying dinner
A lone owl hoots.
Shepherds lean on staffs
soft voices waft out in circles of steam
Sharing more than tales.
Excited angels wait
An entrance of grand proportion to make
A birth to announce.
Eli snuggles close
Under his father's warm cloak, he wonders
"Is this all there is?"
It is take your child
to work day, and Eli is excited
but the night gets long.
Eli stifles yawn
Time to fold his curiosity and sleep
A wasted field-trip.
A bright light bursts forth
torching the midnight canvas, revealing
Wings a fluttering.
Startled shepherds stare
wonder reflected in frightened eyes, as
Eli stumbles to rise.
"Unto you is born
A Savior, born to die so all can live.
God's perfect plan"
Crowds of angels join
Songs of joy echoes through quiet hillsides.
Lifting hearts and woes.
O glorious night
when angels sing and shepherds dance in tune
history turning
Eli gawks at sight
In the company of angels, no less
Truth dawns bright and clear.
He turns to his dad
"Let's hurry....baby Jesus is waiting
I want to be first."
