Writing For Yourself
An Old Friend
I wrap my arms around you and feel the warmth on my skin
A new awakening I’ve been yearning for, waiting to begin
My fingers remember how to move and flow as my mind sends word
Turning my thoughts and memories into a kind of song to be heard
It does not matter how much time has passed, just that we are here now
To rekindle this flame that has felt dull for some time
To remember my true purpose, this calling of mine.
Writing for Therapy
When I was a little girl, I was given a journal by my parents. I was always a day dreamer and had lots of ideas, and having a journal was a great way to creatively express myself. I used my journal as a way to organize my thoughts, express myself, vent and dream. Poetry became a way I could creatively express myself, I felt like it flowed through me and poured onto the paper. I enjoyed it, was lost in it and felt uplifted once I was done.
Writing became my therapy.
When I was a little girl, my father passed away. My mom took us to art therapy and that taught us a way to express what we were going through. I don't think that you have to necessarily talk to feel better, but I do believe you have to find what works for you to help you through your pain, loss, stress, anxiety or depression.
Stream of Conscious Writing
Steam of Conscious writing allows your thoughts to flow through you.
Take a pen and paper and prepare to write. You may choose a topic or let your mind relax and write about anything that flows into your mind. Take it and let it flow. Don't pay attention to grammar, or making sense.
Write for as long as you need, until that thought pattern finishes and you become aware. Let your thoughts take you and flow through you onto the paper.
When you are finished, read what you wrote. Did it help you get things off your chest? Provide Clarity? Answer a question that has been bothering you all day?
