A Door Closes

Updated on June 24, 2013

This is a strongly emotional batch of poetry stirred up by the life and death of a good friend. Here i display the pain and fortune, having the privilege of knowing this friend, i am grateful yet troubled in this awkward time. Assuring myself that i will see you once again, Here's to you Jordan, Cheers!

The Flame

Dances with you forever

While your body and mind

Are out of sight

You never fought just to surrender

Never in fear of the approaching night

You never settled

For less than you were worth

No opportunities were left in the shadows

You were always running free

Always so full of life

In fact,

You still are

But not forgotten

Murdered by

A swollen throat

Wont set in

None of this

Seems to make any sense

Why are any of us here?

Why were you taken?

A second chance?

Searching for a new shell

As life slipped through your hands

Detaining nothing

To have lived without regret

Alive for every moment

Awake for every breath

Even the last

A lapse of separation

Until we can find one another again

For the loss of another brother

Is the loss of a true friend

The gift i gained

Was the privilege of knowing you

Burning time

Just like a flame

Never look back

Or you'll trip over the present

Don't hold on tight

Fly with independance

Live on in peace Jordan, wherever you find yourself next. Know that I'll carry you with me until my own day of death. We've parted once but not forever. See you on the other side - Skyler

Greatly appreciate the support Wayne and Gypsy. You know, i often wonder what the "other side" is like or where exactly it takes us. Thats part of what the line "searching for a new shell" means to me. Sometimes i wonder if out spirit or soul simply sheds its skin from time to time and finds a new body to inhabit after its old "shell" dies.

A question many of us have asked. "Searching for a new shell". Sounds like a line that I could have added to my last piece. Very good work my friend.

What a great blessing to have a friend that you loved and will remember him always. Your poetry is unique, deep and soul touching. You are fortunate to have a soulmate, many poeple never get close enough to anyone to bond..Beautiful...

Sky, I feel ya my friend. I have known too much death during my lifetime...there is no way to handle it "properly" other than to move forward and cherish the memories. I wish there were but I have not discovered the kinder, gentler way of dealing with loss.

blessings and love coming your way
