A Free Spirit

A Free Spirit

Take me to the river
To quench my thirst
But bind not me to
The river's shores.

Drop me on the hills
To touch the sky
Leave not me at
The summit's doors.

Take me up in arms
To drown in love
Cage not me in
The mind's bars.

Shower all smiles
To fondle my heart
Leave me alone
To kiss my pangs.

Give me all hopes
To live on life
Let me levitate
In all my faults.

Like fireflies
Who rush to light
I want to soar
To the heavens.

Dreams delight
In sweet delusion
Let me devour
Fabulous words.

Take me to altars
To place the votive
Thread not me in
The subtle crochet.

I want to taste
Life's juice all
Entangle me not
In good and bad.

What a poem Harish! They wanted to try everything just a little and go to church to cleanse and follow the good, not the bad. It was beautiful, I loved it. I voted it up, shared and pinned it.

A timeless message, my friend. I'm reminded of a poem I read long ago...one line was "what more could please man's soul than to walk free and know no superior?"

Yes, brother. There is a greater joy in abandoning earthly adornments whether good or bad. Nothing else save a sheer freedom --to experience in all peace. Thank you for appreciating the poem, brother manatita.

This poem was breathtaking. I loved the words you chose. My favorite part was " Take me to the river to quench my thirst, but bind me not to the rivers shore" To feel free and unbounded is a peaceful feeling indeed.

" Stay free and unchained " are such great words. Eric, you are right. We are limited by so many factors, in one way or the other. Freedom is very rare. I am delighted that you liked it. Thanks for your kind visit and for presenting such valuable thoughts here.

Ruby, thanks for your kind visit and reading this poem. Sometimes it occurs to me that not only our weaknesses hinder us, but our blatant obsession with immaculate things also looks like a shackle. We need moments like dawn and dusk after having doses of light and darkness. I appreciate your constant support and encouragement.

The work is excellent and a joy to read. It also made me stop and think. Do I bind my spirit when I begin to do or express myself? I am afraid I do with my notions of societal acceptability, religion and materialism. Thank you for the reminder to stay free and unchained.
