The Kind Hearts and The Harden Hearts

Updated on March 10, 2016

I remembered a story which my mom used to say

It's about a kind heart young man they met on a rainy day

My naughty little brother was just a little baby on that day

It was slightly drizzling and they were in a hurry that day.

This kind young man was after his prayers

Came out of the mosque in Wellawatte and he shared

He gave my little brother the round embroidered cap he wore

Saying that he has another one at home.

So, that day my little brother came home with my mom and father

He didn't get any sicknesses thanks to the Muslim Brother

How wonderful to think and know that we can live without fear

I don't understand why there's so much of blood shed to have power?

Sometimes I still have my child fears

But I'm not afraid of the Muslims with beards

As there was once an elderly bus conductor

Who showed kindness as he's a father.

My little sister and I were after English classes

My sister started crying in pain as she made faces

Her tooth was hurting I was so helpless

Didn't know what to do and I was speechless.

This kind Muslim man came to our aid

For some medicine at the pharmacy he paid

I was able to bring my sister home safely that day

I think it's the character that have a peaceful way.

I used to watch 'Peace Tv' with my dad back then

Even recently I watched to see if there's any change

It's as usual criticizing the Bible instead of teaching the Quran

I wondered where's the peace mentioned in the Islam?

With all due respect I do not know what's in the Quran

I don't know why there's so much of killing stating its for the religion

All I can say is that the way I see, it is for a selfish gain

I don't understand how anyone can be won through arguments and killing?

For me I'm not that much bothered about a person's caste or creed

I believe in a person's born nature and character without any greed

Genuine concern for another person's well being

It is admirable who value life in spite of their belief.

I don't understand why Muslim women are almost fully covered?

In this warm sweating weather I'm sure they must be feeling smothered

I was just wondering isn't it nice these beautiful women to wear modest decent clothing

To be accepted and appreciated as they stay clean, neat with much nicer smelling?

That's a nice way of thinking aviannovice :) When I see a woman fully covered , honestly I feel smothered just by looking at her. Not because of anything else, it's this hot sun and sweating like nothing and added to that wearing three layers of clothing? Besides, when you are fully covered you can't even find whether it's a man or a woman underneath.

I know that Muslims are God fearing . Unlike those days, frankly temptations are all around you. My dad used to say, a man's mind doesn't work when he sees a fully naked woman as it's already open and nothing exciting to see but a mans mind starts wondering of the parts which are already covered. It is the mentality of the person. Besides the technology is more advance now, with a click of a button you can look into things that are not good. If it is totally a Muslim country, then yes, men may not fall into temptations by not seeing women but their own, but when you have a mix culture there are so many women and only God knows what the men are thinking and honestly I feel sorry for the women. I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone, I'm just saying....

I think that kindness comes from the kind of person that you really are inside.

I believe Muslim women dress in this manner as to not be a temptation for men. That's all that I really know about the religion. I have also heard both good and bad from Muslims and ex-Muslims.

All I know that if someone is kind to me, I will return that common decency.

What a heart-felt poem, dear heart. One has to wonder how it is that religions get turned into violent motives. But the hearts of individuals are what matter most.
