Two Poems about Love and Perception
Looking Glass
Eyes a bit too round
upper lip a bit too thin
nose a bit too pointed
veering off asymmetrically.
Pieces of a puzzle
even Dali would not arrange.
But viewed through the reflection
of another's eyes,
Beauty is revealed
after all this time,
to the owner of this face
Rabbit Hole
The Rabbit Hole
Smile at me
a Cheshire cat grin
and I fall through again
I fall up, instead of down
Up to where I am new
shiny, bright
the best transformation of myself
I drink deep from the bottle
I greedily swallow, insatiable, trusting
I become a lady,
your lady, for now
you are my looking glass
While I am here
I discover new parts of me to love
I cannot stay here,
I must go for a time
I must return to the mirror on the other side,
warped as it is
but my mind dwells in this wonderland
always
