A Poem for Easter Sunday

Updated on April 19, 2014

How do you view the sacrifice?

When I think about Jesus, I think about how he kept me, how he brought me out of darkness when I didn’t even know I was in it. I think about how he cleaned me up and made me whole again when I was broken. I don’t know where I would be without his love. But, the thing that I am most thankful for is that he died for my sins. There is not a person alive that I can say would do something like that for me, for any of us. I still can’t fathom why there are people who still refuse to believe in him. So many of us have experienced the miracles and blessings of Jesus, but since we did not see him do it with our own eyes, we refuse to believe that it was him who did it. We go on thinking that it was by our own volitions that we were able to get through our troubles and trials. Like Thomas, we want to be able to see the answer with our own eyes, hear it with our own ears or touch it with our own hands, but just as the wind blows and we do not see it physically, we know that it is still there. Jesus puts us in the right places at the right times and helps us meet the right people to coordinate our lives. Jesus died, and I am convinced that the holy spirit was sent forth to guide us because if he had continued to lived, all we would want him to do was prove to us that he was the son of God. What more proof do you need than the sacrifice he made for us? For some, it is going to take tragedy, for others just a word from God and the rest just need to know who he is.

They spit and upon him threw their stones, because he was the son of God, Jesus was hung, because he worked miracles and raised the dead, they put a price upon his head, and on a cross he was crucified, but the son of God cannot be denied. Because of his goodness, he gave his all and because of his love we continue to fall, short of deserving the grace he continues to supply, though we continue to hurt, cheat, steal, and lie. Because people refused to believe the truth, he sacrificed his body and we no longer need proof, that Jesus is the great I am and that he was a spirit inside a man.
