A Stitch In Time....Undone.

Updated on December 18, 2009

A Stitch In Time, Unraveled.

We left it there,
wool sweater slung
over an old chair,
flecked with strands
of her gray hair.

Her knitting needles
set down forever,
crisscrossed from
her last endeavor
in the jumble of her
unfinished yarn.....

...and she would have
muttered, "Darn,
I was hoping to
be done with that."
One more lovingly
folded scarf or hat,
added to her pile
of finished goods.

It is a still life
of what was,
a natural work
of art because
of the many
soft, muted colors,
blending with
mahogony woods.

All abandoned in
a rocking chair
filled with a
haunting emptiness,
that leaves us
all perplexed,
over this exit from
her happy little
corner of the world
on a journey to her next.

Lovely tribute, I can see her sitting there in her old chair, knitting away. My favorite lines"
