Pollution’s haze

Imbues dusk’s light

With a softness not found in nature’s palette.

It blurs the edges of light

And brushes out its harshness

Passing on orange to an already pink sky.

Kissed in that way--

I breathe it in and wonder

Where the tipping point lies

Between beauty and destruction.

Powerful poem. I was born and raised in L.A. and each time I fly out from there, it looks as though we are departing a plume of brown smoke from an industrial stack! Sometimes we can only see nature's beauty through a dusty screen...

Powerful poetic images, Audrey, but I much prefer the Florida sunsets which are pure and clear and not obscured by smog.

Ahhh - More wonderful poetry. And that line between beauty and destruction is so very fine, isn't it?

It's amazingly timely, Audrey. Somehow the colors of the sunset bespeak the bomb's blaze and your "tipping point" seems to suggest the moment when the joy of that event turned to something completely opposite. It gives me goose bumps AND chills up and down my spine.

Thank you for another very lovely, effective expression of your artistry, which you sum up & conclude with:

"I breathe it in and wonder

      Where the tipping point lies

      Between beauty and destruction."

It seems to emerge from some other concept of reality, doesn't it?

Nellieanna--I didn't originally write it that way--but yes--timely--so very sad--

Very touching poem - sad and beautiful at the same time. I also wonder where the tipping point lies. The truth is often sad.

Thank you Pamela! The truth is often sad--and yet, we must find a way to honor it

I hate the city smog, but it's where most of us live. At least we can still see the lovely colours of the sunsets.
